Although the official technical specs of the Jolla phone list only 802.11b/g/n support for WiFi, I was wondering if support for 5 GHz (i.e. 802.11a/n or, even better, 802.11a/n/ac) might be added later (if the SoC actually supports it).

that would be really cool cause everyone is using 2.4Ghz so its very overloaded

When there will be a port for the N9. There is a 5GHz chip in it :D

Hopefully the Jolla 2 will have this. So far, I am a bit disappointed but I goes the Jolla Sailors had their reasons for not going with a dual band chip there.

Unfortunately only 802.11 b/g/n over 2.4Ghz is supported.

Too bad that Jolla did not include the 5GHz chip.

Is it because the hardware doesn't support it, or is it a software issue? Or even licensing? On TMO I've seen output using a driver which does list the 5GHz band, but it is marked as disabled. I must say, Jolla is much, much faster on WLAN than my N9 ever was, even on crowded 2.4GHz band.

disappointing tho, N9 was released in 2011 without having top specs covers the 5GHz band.

LTE is faster than most wlan APs conneted to adsl, would be nice to have 5GHz it in jolla2, but it is not disappointing, jolla is cheap phone in compare just to N9, so we cannot get everything for that price...

@tigeli if integrated wifi is qualcomm WCN3660 then 5ghz is supported. https://together.jolla.com/question/20355/which-wifi-chipset-is-used-in-our-device/ tells me that an 802.11ac-mode chip is used...
