It is not possible to use the Android PlayMemories app with Jolla phone. It tries and hangs to discover the camera. By the way it is an ILCE 5100.

My question is: Someone know this issue? How to debug this problem?

Yes, there's even a reported bug and howto with possible fix. It doesn't work for me, though. I use Sony action camera and suffer this issue, too, but decided to fix the problem by buying separate remote control.

Not working. Another Android app using wifi works as desired.

I can confirm that PlayMemories 5.2.4 running on 1.1.7.24 (Björnträsket) does NOT work.

I have also ILCE-5100 and have tackled with the same problem and it looks like the only problem is Sony's PlayMemories App. Other UPnP software seem to work perfectly and for example with BubbleUPnP (which is available in Play Store) I'm able to transfer pictures directly to my phone via camera's wlan. Just select "Send to Smartphone" on your camera, connect to camera's wlan with your phone, open BubbleUPnP and your camera is listed there (might take a while to appear). Unfortunately remote controlling is not working this way.

I have been thinking of setting up a petition to the Sony. If they would be willing to make a Sailfish version of their Playmemories remote app. I know it's Don Quijote fighting windmills, but maybe..just maybe..they will get a note out of it and perhaps...

If I reverse the thought.. and we keep our mouths shut it's a clear message that we will not have Sailfish apps, and we are content with the not-always-so-good-working Android apps on our SFOS phones. Yes, we are still a small community, but a growing one, I hope.

Well, we Sailfish X users are using a Sony phone anyway.. at the moment we can't connect our Sony phones with Sony cameras (okay, we have hacked them, buuuut... anyway :)

So, I was thinking making a petition to change.org.

Here is my initial text, please feel free to suggest in anyway to make the text better:

Dear Mr. Kazuo Hirai, president and chief executive officer of Sony, Dear Mr. Shigeki Ishizuka, executive vice president of Sony, officer in charge of imaging products and solutions business, president of Sony Digital Imaging group.

We, as present or future users of Sony's smart telephones and cameras, kindly request Sony to release the Playmemories Remote Application also as a Sailfish OS version. Sailfish is a mobile phone operating system from Jolla Ltd, Finland. Sailfish was recently taken into Sony Open Devices Program and currently it is possible to install Xperia X model with Sailfish.

As we have a Sony smart telephone and Sony cameras, it would give a good image of Sony as providing support or all their devices. Sailfish OS community is a growing one and the need and a Remote application by Sony for Sailfish would be greatly appreciated and warmly welcomed. This in general would increase Sony's sales for Xperia telephones and Sony's cameras in return.

There are good instructions for Sailfish Os development tools, SDK: https://sailfishos.org/wiki/Application_Development

Sony Pledge of Quality states "Sony employees will always respect our customers' viewpoints in striving to deliver product quality and customer service that exceed their expectations." We are therefore confident that great care will be taken by Sony’s digital and imaging development team to satisfy this reasonable and kind request.

A great deal of text is borrowed from this petition: https://www.change.org/p/sony-remove-the-star-eater-on-sony-a7-a7s-r-mk-i-ii-and-a9-cameras So sign it too if you feel it's important for you :-)

hello! Has anyone found a viable solution for this matter?

I have Sony cameras ILCE-7M2 and NEX-6. Both are updated to latest Sony's FW and Apps are updated to latest version. My Jollas version 1.1.2.16.

It seems that I can easily connect camera and Jolla together with WLAN, but the App won't find the connection made... The behaviour is same with both cameras.

same issue with my Sony RX100 III

Confirmed issue with Sony Alpha 5000L

sjn ( 2015-06-10 20:53:36 +0300 )edit

Tested again with: Sony Xperia X / SFOS 2.1.4.13 + Sony a7R2 / FW 4.0 + Playmemories app smart remote ctrl v6.2.0

the same thing as always... camera says: "connecting" for an eternity.

My guess is that sailfish is trying persistently to retrieve internet connection from camera and won't accept anything else..
