Browser-based VoIP and chat services that work with just a browser now exist, so we can use Skype or browser plugins less.

Firefox Hello lacks chat/IM. However, etherpad is better than IM as it does limit interaction to serial messages.

tl;dr Get etherpad.org.

Though I couldn't find any decent WebRTC services especially for calling phone lines (i.e. to replace Google Talk for example). Not sure why they don't exist.

About pure WebRTC options, recently Mozilla rolled out Firefox Hello (aka Loop) but only for the desktop version. It would be great to have it in Sailfish browser.

Is this on the roadmap? Am I allowed to tag it as such? Seems to me syncronising development to Firefox Hello would be a great way to go forward. Failed to retag firefox-hello, this tag appears to be subject to moderator disapproval.

I'm hopeful about Firefox Hello and/or etherpad.org: the latter, a web-based live collaborative editor (not a wiki but could be part of one) is reportedly making effort to include video conversation capabilities.

Etherpad, non-Google Wave edition, at least would give something approximating a choice about my (theoretically) private data and interactions metadata would go.

Firefox Hello is nothing but WebRTC . Check the existing thread https://together.jolla.com/question/9514/support-webrtc-in-native-web-browser/
