I used to put some notes within certain contact details with my N9 and they were pushed correctly to my Google account, but People app in my Jolla doesn't even show them. It would be nice to add notes to contact details as well as sync them with supported online services.

[Edit] Still unsupported after 1.0.4.20 release
[Edit] Still unsupported after 1.1.1.27 release; added ui tag
[Edit] Still unsupported in 2.1.0.11 release
[Edit] Still unsupported in 2.1.1.26 release
[Edit] Still unsupported in 2.1.2.3 release
[Edit] Still unsupported in SailfishX 2.1.3.5 release
[Edit] Still unsupported in 2.2.0.29 release
[Edit] Still unsupported in 3.0.1.11/14 release
We have 2019:
[Edit] Still unsupported in 3.0.3.9/10 release
[Edit] Released in 3.1.0.11

Reopened as this is not feature complete:
The notes field is not indexed for search.

Looks like duplicate or addition to my question here https://together.jolla.com/question/2093/people-add-custom-labels/

Yes, your question is much broader than mine. But I think that notes in contacts should not be a custom field but a default one.

Reopening because NOTE is part of the vCard standard.

Generally speaking, compatibility to Google (if we like it or not) is a must for market penetration. No Googlian will consider a Jolla without havng the possibility to sync it's data.

Any update on this? This is a really annoying...

Notes are imported from sources such as Google contacts, but we don't yet have any UI to report them, or to add/edit them. It isn't a complicated task, so it's just a matter of getting to the front of the queue, I'm sorry to say.

So you say the Notes for a contact are imported - we just can't see them?

I ask because I imported all my contacts from my N9 - contacts which have a lot of notes.

So these Notes will still be there? When the People app adds the functionality / UI to show them?

Should this issue be flagged with the 'roadmap' tag?

This is a must have feature, please add notes support to the contacts (it can't be so difficult adding this to the GUI if the field already exists in the data).

The absence of this feature is the reason I can not use my Jolla. Notes represent important information and the only way to complete the details of a contact. They are the result of much personal work gathering information that may not be included in any other way. In a project like this is especially incomprehensible lose the only option to freely expand contact information. Please reconsider the priority of this feature and let us use and recommend this Jolla seriously.

In any case congratulations for this project, we need options like this.

Thank you

Yes, notes are very important to use contacts productively.

Hello Jolla team,

"Notes" Field is still not present in sfos 2.1.0.11

Seems that this field is present in many contact management like carddav, active-sync, and surely many other systems...
As the above thread described, the possibility on the sfos gui is really tight.
I miss a field which could complete every special infos that i put a helpfully information.

For example add some comments about calling time from offices, or his speciality. Maybe if he leave downstairs/upstairs.

I would need it strongly.

Please please, if it's not that difficult, would be nice to speed up the availability.

Really important question: is it actually in roadmap ?
By each other thread which handle it (duplicates), we can see that it was mentioned that it is not in roadmap.

Cheers

Is there a roadmap? Cannot find one. I badly need the notes field in contacts as well as the 3 old-age pensioners, I taught to use Jolla1/Intex aqau fish as digital assistant.

If this is a complicated task, would it be easy to as least show the notes for starters, and add editing later? Only contacts that are imported with notes already in them would have notes then.

[EDIT: Converted to answer. We can export or use sync with Google for contacts we really need to put a note on, then re-import/sync them after editing, as long as we can at least see the note in the contacts manager.]

still no note field in 1.1.2.16

at least all the standard fields should be available.

For myself I'm especially interested in the data from the table "Families", "Tags" or "Hobbies" (field "categories") and "key" and even it is part of v4: "kind" to draw a distinction between persons and business. "key" does not already exist in the sqlite database, but is a very nice feature known from other systems.

For those who won't wait, this is another workaround (by use of the terminal):

[nemo@joe] sqlite3 /home/nemo/.local/share/system/Contacts/qtcontacts-sqlite/contacts.db 'select note from Notes natural join Contacts where lastName like "Foo";'

Do we have access to the source code for the people-app? Could we let the community fix this for us?

One not so elegant solution is to use some other field for the notes, e.g. email field. If you have your old contact details in vCard file, just run:

sed 's/NOTE:/EMAIL;TYPE=PREF,INTERNET:/' contacts.vcf > contacts2jolla.vcf

and (re)import the contacts file.

That is a nice idea, thank you for sharing. Hopefully it is can only a temporary solution...

MichaelSD ( 2014-11-20 21:48:42 +0300 )edit

Agree. Just temporary solution. Jolla people, please add this feature ASAP.

hei, Jolla, any advances in functionality of 'people' app?

  • address display is very basic, just phone numbers, email, websites
  • we miss the 'notes' field. -we need to enter edit mode to see someones address
  • the layout in edit mode is not terriffic

in all unlikeliness: Compare your address book with android's

danfin ( 2015-10-28 09:29:30 +0300 )edit

that's an idea but not elegant. welcome to the chaos. each other fields are done for what they describes...

If there is a note about person, it could be good to show the note on the incoming call screen.

And when inside of the call, - add option to add/edit the note directly.

The backlog must be looong.

Given the time passed this question, it's better to make your own Contacts app because it seems never going to be implemented in SailfishOS' own Contacts app.

In the Android world the opinion exists, that all the Address Book apps named "Contacts" have their Notes-field, while the "People" apps have none. I found this two jears ago in a Forum which I soon lost, and can not find anymore in the ocean of opinions.

One year ago I got a Moto G5s Plus, meanwhile with Android-8.1. The (Google-) App "Contacts" really have Notes, and they behave flawless!

After improvements in the recent release the People native app has flawless notes support (tested on Jolla 1 on 2019-10-02) making this answer simple History.
