Matchstick recently announced hardware partners for their Chromecast/Miracast competitor, Flint. Flint is on github and offers free SDKs for iOS and Android already. Now it may be that the Android libraries work out of the box but I presume we would prefer this to be available for native apps out of the box.

As streaming any kind of content is very important for tablet use (may it be movies, games or presentations), I'd think this would be a nice addition to the tablet if Miracast support (also already requested) proves impossible.

[update 08/03/2015] the matchstick project is officially dead. hence, this feature request can be ignored/closed.

Yes! Want! But for the phone :)

@Blizzz actually, flint as a software-only solution seems superior for such purpose over, e.g., Miracast which AFAIK requires some hardware support (which the tablet SoC allegedly has, the phone SoC not).

With yesterday's strong change in direction of the Matchstick project (and the 6 months delay associated with it), I am not too convinced myself anymore if they are going to deliver, what it is going to be and if I'd want to use it. Only time will tell.

In the meantime, I'd say this should not (yet) be implemented in Sailfish. Nevertheless, some working streaming solution for the tablet would be a very valuable addition for various usage scenarios.

Unfortunately there seem to be no final product: the Matchstick team just announced that they will refund Kickstarter crowd funders. The explanation is apparently difficulties in implementing the DRM support. Sad, since the reason for the six month delay was just because DRM support should be added, something that upset many of the backers. The lack of communication from the team didn't make the situation better either.

Seriously, DRM, wtf. Now with DRM being the final coffin nail we've come full circle.
