I've noticed this in several questions so far: comments seem to be disappearing for no apparent reason. They're not deleted though, if you link directly to the comment you can still see them.

Example compare comments in this link to a single question: https://together.jolla.com/question/955/mms-multimedia-message/

And then this direct link to a comment, where you see a lot of additional comments made by various people: https://together.jolla.com/question/955/mms-multimedia-message/?comment=7462#comment-7462

Some of the "missing" comments used to be answers, but that shouldn't explain why regular comments go missing too.

Edit people have added more comments to the question, none of them appear unless you directly link to the latest one.

At least the mms question comments suggest that an answer was converted to a comment, perhaps it's the comments on the converted answer in particular that are affected in this way?

Does this comment disappear if I convert the parent to a comment? (edit: nope, it didn't).

@sp3000 it's not just the comments added to the "old" answers that have disappeared. People keep adding new comments to the original question as well and none of them appear.

This seems to be an Askbot bug. When converting answer to question comment, it sets wrong comment count on the question, and thus the "see more comments" button is not shown.

EDIT: The fix has been deployed

Thanks Keto! I will for now cautiously use the functionality then...

Okay, that explains it! Hopefully this can be fixed, I'm seeing comments disappearing all over the place :)

@ziller: Could you kindly point to specific posts where you see this happening? Good to keep track and thanks for your help!

@eric I might have reacted too soon, I thought 274 would have been one, but I now see my comment there too. I'll have to go through my followed questions to try to find where else I've seen this happen.

It's not just comments, it's images too.

For instance the image in this question comes and goes.

Here's the direct link to the image: https://together.jolla.com/upfiles/13884972536806716.png

I can open this link in a tab/window and sometimes I'll get the image, other times I'll get an Askbot error page ("Page not found. Sorry, could not find the page you requested."). Just keep reloading the page (ctrl-r in Firefox) and see if you get the error, or maybe you'll actually get the image!

Maybe it's a configuration error or just a flaky http server.

I'm pretty sure the comments not appearing and images coming and going is all related - if you reload a question often enough, the comments will magically appear (and then disappear again if you reload too many times).

It seems like it's just a bad http/s webserver failing to serve up all of the required content all of the time, with comments and images failing due 404 errors.

Uploaded files giving 404 is a different issue, and we are fixing it

Keto ( 2014-01-02 10:28:48 +0300 )edit

Yeah the image upload/download issue is fixed now..
