Currently, as far as I can see, only way to move backups out of Jolla (save for geeky stuff like SSH) is via SD-card.

Along with this option, I would like (and prefer) ability to send backups via e-mail. That way, one could make sure that things get to safety zone just with few clicks.

I understand this might be not the thing for Gallery and maybe not for Accounts, but e.g. contacts are definitely worth it. (Other options like Owncloud, Dropbox, etc. would be of course useful as well, especially for the "fat" ones.)

Eventually, it could be extended by some scheduling functionality, like make backup each Friday and send it to a dedicated e-mail.

Am thinking how Apple does it? I remember when my brother got a replacement device, he could restore everything (including wallpaper) from iTunes. I suppose, it is either on PC or on the cloud. Again, cloud could lead to privacy concerns.

If you're interested in Contacts alone, maybe the below is a better option. https://together.jolla.com/question/384/export-vcf-from-people/

Backing up contacts through a separate channel seems a little redundant since there are better ways to keep them synced and backed up (Google, exchange, CalDAV(?), ...). Also, contacts usually don't change much during an average week.

In addition to that email isn't really designed for moving bulk data around. Attachment size is often limited to 10 or 25 megabytes, which might turn out to be an issue for super-social and networked people. In the long run it would also contribute to clogging people's inboxes.

Simply said: there are better ways to backup contacts.
