At first glance I thought it to be the same issue as android apps not starting in low memory situations¹, however closing all open sailfish apps does not help. Restarting android/aliendalvik does not help. The only thing that helps is restarting the device, which gets old fast.

I haven't done any modifications to my android install. I have recently done a factory reset (around the time of the last update).

Any further ways to debug this?

Edit: I'm not sure, but my bug might actually be this bug.

Something seems to have happened recently: I have been using Android for close to a year now with few problems, but now none of my Android apps start for some reason. It worked well this morning, but this afternoon, when I started one of the apps I often use, it just didn't start! Nor did any other Android app. I really hope I won't need to delete my entire Android library - it will be a lot of work rebuilding everything again!

I have Google Play installed, and moved the entire Android install to the SD-card (both have been working well for a long time). Have you done any modifications to your Android install?

I haven't done any modifications to my android install. I don't know what triggers it, it seems to "just happen" after a while. I don't use Google Play, only F-Droid and Aptoide.

"Thoroughly cleaning out and reinstalling Alien Dalvik might help, though it hurts: https://together.jolla.com/question/13805/android-support-not-working-apps-not-loading/#post-id-14896"

Thanks for the pointer, but as that OP mentions reboots didn't help him. I might try cleaning all caches and reinstalling regardless.

I can't believe someone voted me down for this :-( - hey if a solution does not work for you it doesn't mean it's a bad answer ...

Check, if the package 'apkd' is still installed. If not, install it again "pkcon install apkd"

It happened to me last week that android apps refused to start and I removed Alien Dalvik just to realize, that after a complete reinstall it was still the same behavior :-( - after a hint from ejjoman on TMO I looked after apkd and it really wasn't installed any mor - reinstalling did the trick ...

It seems, that it is sometimes removed while the uninstall of an android app - for me the uninstall of younited coused the problems ...

All the credits for this solution goes to ejjoman!

sorry can you help me with that where can i find this package and install it?

Dev-mode => terminal => devel-su => pkcon install apkd

If the first steps are not clear, please start with a howto for root on jolla!

I actually had that package installed, which I guess is both good and bad. I'll see whether the bug happens again and I can't solve it by doing the clipboard thing mentioned in my edit. Thanks for the suggestion!

Works for me! Thanks!

It seems that my Google Play X (music etc) removement was the reason for killing my apkd

As mentioned in my original post, restarting android (aliendalvik) does not help.
