There is a software solution that i would like to see for the sailfish os.

That will be an official app like android to have access on the data of the system like pictures, video, music, documents.airdroid website Control of some service, like camera, SMS, calls, media player. For downloading/uploading data, read or play it. Like the airdroid do, but on the jolla way.

The reason of this request is motivated, because of next conditions:
1) MTP not optimized: We could connect the device with computer through usb with MTP . That a Microsoft standard (oups Microsoft means not really jolla philosophy). Anyway there are some MTP variant, but should work, and on my ubuntu computer it doesn't work. And maybe it doesn't work by so many other people.

2)Airdoid not native: Airdroid is jolla "compatible" with aptoide. but is not native. And by me doesn't work any more since sailfish 1.1.1.27.

3) Native app : There is one native app, work good, but is a little tiny, i miss a lots of things, and the developer don't maintain it since last summer. It work really stable, i think the developer is really happy with it. That is sailserver. Present in jolla store.

With this app solution we just need a wlan router and the device. no cable. Present more functionalities as the USB-cable solution. But It is (and should stay as) a complement of the USB cable solution.

That could be a really great feature, more powerful, especially make more sense since the tablet device comes on the market too.

For my part i need a kind of powerful connection with my computer. Because, the MTP interface on my Linux distribution is buggy (don't work any more, i don't know why). And there is so much different variant of it in Linux world. Airdroid (not Native) don't work any-more since sailfish update 1.1.1.27 Sailserver is too limited.

I was been aware on a interesting concept and its discussion from chemist Jolla Radar - An unlike Suite. You could give a look, and support this kind of software solution, as native one, and maybe as sailfish default one. Thanks :)

@chemist that's right if we read your thread until the end. That why i didn't find it, because there is no reference of example like airdroid, that people could have a concrete picture of example in their mind. My thread bring my experience which is the same of other, and some alternatives, which are not sailfish healthy. That why i want to ask you if you find correct that i reopen mine, and reedit it and make a link to yours, that you give on your answer?

Is it right for you? on this way we could maybe have more chance to collect people, to bring the request on the foreground.
Your thread goes more deeper on explanation. it's nice. i support it right now.

You could reference KiesAir Airdroid and all other stuff - I'd just call them OTA-Suites. So what you are asking to is to have this open to have a reference to airdroid and other software? I can add that to the other thread if it is really your wish, but ~60 upvotes is what all that pcsuite stuff gets here as people are not that interested in it yet. With you posting a duplicate and me referring that here it will get attention again.

@chemist it is not not really to make a reference of those solution. My motivation is to explain the problem, with concrete experience, then give an example of solution (where i dont have a lot of experience and know-ho on it) with concrete existing software solutions. And bring up the to your thread, which is more deeper technically and more jolla philosophy oriented. I find on this aspect that not really a duplicate. but an introduction. I know with ~60 it goes not so much currently. But it could change. The subject should stay on foreground, otherwise, people won't do something. last months the community grew up. More people may have to need it. You don't know how much use those OT-Suites alternatives, and how much can't use any more after the 1.1.1.27 update (like me). How much are sensible to the benefit of a native app? so much argument to give to other people....

what is the meaning of OTA for you? could you detail each letters please?

cemoi71 ( 2015-01-30 12:54:07 +0300 )edit

Over The Air Suite, wireless technology is widely referred to as *Air, Samsung has Kies Air and there is air droid and Air play by Apple and so on - I do not get your point, you don't start threads to make aware of a topics that are already being discussed - that is why duplicates get closed and tagged as duplicates. What you call device-data-access-server is an OTA Suite and that is already being discussed, contribute to that discussion please.
