I want to be sure, that the built in cameras and microphone are off at times I do not use them. A mechanical solution is the only way to achieve this. This request aims at the upcoming tablet first of all.
This is can be done with inexpensive components and as you keep advertising on and on that you'd have the users privacy in mind, this is a "must".

Thank you for your contribution to the Jolla Tablet project! We receive a lot of ideas and suggestions, which we are grateful for, but all of them can't be implemented. We've reviewed your idea and unfortunately it is not something we can implement, at least right now. However, we will keep all suggestions, and might revisit this decision in the future if we see an opportunity to implement this feature-request in an upcoming product.

If you are referring to the Jolla Tablet, you should add the jolla-tablet tag to the question. Either way, it would be helpful to mention the device you are referring to, or if it's only a suggestion for future devices.
Drekkarian ( 2015-01-31 02:20:37 +0300 )editThis is a great idea, especially since the warning LEDs on many cameras are controlled by software. Spyware can simply disable it - and capture video without you even noticing. With microphone, it's even more simple.
