I personally did not have a MeeGo N900-series phone. But I've heard that people love(d) that phone and its functions.

Because MeeGo and Sailfish are "OS-sisters" it should not be too difficult to port functions or apps from N900. So here are my questions to YOU and maybe requests to Jolla...

  1. What function did the N900 have that isn't implemented in Sailfish yet?
  2. What function do you miss most? ...even if not fully functional in N900 phone.
  3. What connection possibilities do you miss? e.g. sync-tools.

Beside my curiousity my hope is to help Jolla developing faster/easier by forking beloved N900-functions. Therefore we need to know from you N900-users what IS missed. :-)

(State only one function per answer so voting is easier)

N900 run Maemo, not MeeGo, Jolla is SailFishOS, there are many s/w and h/w differences, for example different screen technologies almost dictate different type of apps, etc.

IMO, this is a very subjective question and its been already covered in separate threads. I feel, its not like Jolla team doesn't know what needs to be implemented. The constraint is time and limited resources.

SailfishOS is not meego/maemo brother/sister. It contains some legacy meego/maemo mw stuff, but not too much.

@rdmo python is already here for ages

Personally, I preferred the organisation of different screen of N9.

Swipe to top or bottom to change current application is not intuitive...

Right/Left is better to use with one hand...

Initially I think it was because I used more time N9 than Jolla, but today, I used more the Jolla than N9, but, always I restart the N9, I say "yes, it was very fluid and intuitive UX experience..."

For me N9 stay the best phone I used...

JOlla is good, especially with Android applications.

But N9 was perfect !!! Lock/Notification screen was very useful when Jolla phone is unusable...

Round screen border was very enjoyable...

Swype keyboard was usefull...

The only thijnk missing was the Hardware keyboard...

My dream phone is a phone like N950 (I never had it...)

N900 uses the MMC for store camera pictures & videos, installed apps and literally for everything. But Jolla does not do that as far as know. My Jolla uses it's phone memory for images/video (shoot or taken from Camera) and it's installed almost all the android apps in phone memory.

I don't know how tweak the setting. This is what I mainly missed from N900.

The N900 has had a calendar widget which showed all entries of the next x days. Jolla only shows me today which makes buying birthday presents very stressful. :-(

for N9 there was a pretty useful and configurable plugin for the events view.

The calendar widget together with a real task list as part of the calendar is definitely what I miss most right now. Keeping an eye on the agenda is so much more complex on the Jolla compared to the N900... :-(

If I remember correctly from my N900:

  • Bluetooth file transfer (of every file type)
  • keyboard
  • widgets
  • skype integration
  • lens cover
  • multiple desktop screen

    - basic applications (from nokia) were much better. This one make me angry: Jolla YOU HAVE to make your APPS less basic!!!

Surprised no one mentioned it yet.. but I miss the Desktop Command Execution Widget(http://wiki.maemo.org/Desktop_Command_Execution_Widget_scripts) as it made it easy to show whatever I wanted on the homescreen. I also miss the custom kernels which offered an easy way to overclock the n900 to perform better.

  • Desktop Command Execution Widget
  • Overclockable kernels

A request for something similar to the desktop command execution widget was made earlier (http://together.jolla.com/question/29226/app-request-command-line-outputs-on-a-customizable-cover/). Unfortunately it didn't generate enough interest. However, ShellEx app by @Acce comes closer.

not that important, but I miss the geolocation info within the instant messaging presence status, see: https://together.jolla.com/question/14211/option-show-geolocation-within-instant-messaging-status-like-n900/

EDIT: and also the ability to automatically sort apps into folders according to app store categories ("catorise" for N900: https://together.jolla.com/question/47686/option-sort-apps-into-folders-according-to-how-they-are-categorized-in-jollastore/)

The email app on my N900 let me listen to voicemails in mp3 attachments. My Jolla still doesn't. :-|

HI,

I'm still using N900, N9 and jolla

basically I missed the second slide and third slice of N9, The second slide mean all the active Apps are in one place and the third slide where we can scroll through all active event and notification. if Jolla bring to current Jolla (Via software update) or next gen Jolla would be more great

On N9 I used to use RSS feeder. but in Jolla we has to have separate RSS app in order to check news. One more thing is the home screen on N9 is very fluid and it doesn't go slide by slide as Jolla do. It will scroll freely and it was very convenient to select app where your thumb is, needn't to stretch all the way up to and to the bottom as we do on Jolla now.

On N900 we able to edit Connection's APN where Jolla doesn't allow us to do that.

You can edit the APN on the Jolla too, it's just that the option is invisible. See this question (and vote for it so that the feature stops being invisible!): https://together.jolla.com/question/25434/indication-to-hint-that-a-context-menu-is-available/

Yes, I found that. Wow yahoo !!! Thank you so much. N900 , N9 and Jolla (they are the best of the best). Glad I own three of them.
