Article is in finnish, but F-Secure is selling their Younited-service to New Jersey based Synchronoss-company due to lack of paying customers: http://www.digitoday.fi/bisnes/2015/02/04/tekiko-f-secure-juuri-tylyn-oharin/20151504/66

This also means we probably never see native Younited integration.

Also seems like one of the ex-bosses of NSA has invested in the company so tinfoilhatters be extra careful: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/10/former-nsa-director-had-thousands-personally-invested-in-obscure-tech-firms/

Update: At the moment according to F-Secure the hosting servers will stay in Finland behind F-Secure encryptions, but Synchronoss will take over the customer side of the business and on long run they might migrate the servers to US: http://www.digitoday.fi/bisnes/2015/02/04/f-secure-emme-peta-younited-kaupalla-asiakaslupaustamme/20151503/66

Sad news. Similar happened to Wuala, formerly a Swiss cloud service which was bought by Lacie. Finally Lacie became part of US-based Seagate. As a former Wuala user I had to realize that customer service somewhere "dissapeared" within the big Seagate company and heard of an example that an Iranian customer was blocked from using the service without any warning (because the company all the sudden had to follow US laws and thus respect their sanctions towards certain countries).

Anyways, good luck F-secure and like @heubergen, I recommend ownCloud :-)

It didn't work after the last update anyway. So... (Given the quality of their service, the usability... I'm not surprised they didn't find enough paying customers.)

I wish we had a native syncthing client. The simplicity of setting it up makes it the best candidate for ocupying this sort of space, while it's really open and secure.

@nthn: Looks like they bundle the upstream binaries inside their own git repository, which is a horrible practice. To make matters worse, they even include binaries for other architectures.

The package only conatins the binary for the current platform. It was a first attempt on releasing the app. I'm not very experienced in this.

I made a separate syncthing package now https://openrepos.net/content/fooxl/syncthing-bin whose source consists of just the spec file.

The next release of the GUI will depend on this binary and not contain it itself.

For those of us who want to get rid of Younited, there are instructions for how the delete your account and all of your personal data in Younited community. Go to https://community.f-secure.com/t5/Using-younited/I-wan-t-to-delete-my-account/m-p/66566

And it might be easier to delete your files from Younited by accessing your account with browser: https://account.younited.com. There you can select multiple files and whole directories. And finally empty Trash.

And as with any third party cloud storage service, you can never be sure if your data has really been deleted. :)

Jottacloud is a really nice and rather cheap service. Privacy-wise they seem to have a very strict message that should be quite appealing to Jolla users. I used to use it for backups but since moving from MacOS to Linux a client is missing in action. They don't seem to be interested in adding additional OSes. It's only a choice when you go mainstream (Windows/Mac, iOS/Android).
