Dear Community members,

We have enabled a private group here on TJC, to gather feedback from our currently closed Community Beta Group. Along with this change, you may see some of the questions having a new string, visible under the Question title: Tracked by Jolla

This is a work in progress to increase visibility on the items that we address in each of our iterations. We plan to further develop this tracking mechanism with some level of automation so one can easily track what is currently planned and worked on.

Please note that there is currently no way to search for the string on your side but we will later deploy this functionality. As we have already communicated, we strive for increasing visibility on our activities and share progress with you while enabling better ways for you to participate and steer development, together.

Some background on Community Beta:
We have kept this activity under the radar for quite some time, mostly experimenting how we could gracefully collect valuable feedback from Community members. It has been a modest endeavour, with just a handful of participants hence our decision not to actively communicate on the topic.

However, now that we have gained confidence in scaling up this experiment progressively, we can also gradually open up. Integrating the Opt-in as part of our release process goes into that direction too, and the purpose of the Community Beta Group using TJC is to allow a streamlined and fast feedback approach to last minute fixes as well as collecting feedback on how each release is actually perceived.

The profiles of our participants are reflecting our vibrant Community, yet at this stage, we focus mainly on developers so we get more insight on possible issues with logs and debugging.

  • As we roll out the opt-in releases, we will pick into the pool of volunteers, keeping for now an identical focus on developers (we will send individual invitations).

  • After we are confident we can scale up even further, we will offer to broaden participation into the Community Beta Group.

Note that the private reports can at some point be open, if they require to, and rest assured we will work towards opening more as we go.

Best regards, Eric, on behalf of the Jolla Team

Very good initiative, highly respected that Jolla is constantly and actively seeking ways to enable user and developer community participation in the planning, design, development, co-creation and issue reporting/tracking activities related to the SailfishOS and future Jolla devices.

Looking forward to hearing more about how this works in practise and hoping that this makes it even more easy and straightforward for the Together and other user/dev forums, sites and communities members constructively to contribute to the bright future of SailfishOS and Jolla.
