Please, add cover actions to the weather app. It currently lacks any cover action if just one location is added, which is a shame, as the cover already shows some info, but is not interactive. I suggest 2 cover actions (not just one):

  1. refresh - this action is already available from the app's pulley menu
  2. (>) change default location - available only if >1 location is added. Triggering this action switches to the next available location.

Simply put, replicate Meecast app behavior! ;)

@anandrkris Ah, you're right :) I haven't used Meecast for a while.

I made a patch for those who like this suggestion.

Check it out here (or install from Warehouse): https://openrepos.net/content/nodevel/patch-weather-app-cover-actions

Make sure you have patchmanager installed.

It should refresh on its own, if it has no valid data it will show a refresh cover-action, if it doesn't it is a bug... if you have only one location you might also just not have the app minimized and use the events-view instead... that should update (if internet is available) when you look at it.

I know, but then again, the app already has the 'Update' action in the pulley menu, so there is no reason not to put it on the cover.

there is no reason to put it anywhere when it updates automatically (properly) - this is no mars mission, this is a weather widget!

Then start your own question 'Remove Update action from pulley menu' both from the Weather app and Events view. It's no mystery that automatic update are scheduled, so one may wish to do it manually to be sure that the info isn't outdated.

In the Events view, feeds also update automatically, yet I have used the manual 'Update' action quite a few times.

Anyways, Jolla put the action in the weather app, so they obviously felt the demand for manual updates. This question is just about exposing it to the cover as well. It can't hurt.

It updates every time you go online, if it cannot update it tells you on the cover and you get an update action! Where is the need for having an update action when the data was already updated? The need is plain subjective as YOU need an action to validate that YOU did something to make sure that it updated. When the automation works it is already updated before you even consider to update it by hand! The update cycle is no lower than what foreca updating cycle is. Now read what I wrote as often as needed to understand that there is no reason for an update action other than making you comfortable with having a button. Or is this about the second action discussion and you just found a way to pretend that every cover needs a second action?

Just checking if I understood it right - there should be update cover action conditionally only when an auto-update has failed for some reason (e.g. no connectivity) ?
