I've noticed a few spelling and grammatical mistakes in the German translation. As far as I have seen, they only affect strings that have been added in Yliaavanlampi.

Weather app

weather pulley

  • “Infromationen” -> “Informationen”. I don't know how this typo went unnoticed.
  • “Öffne app” - “Öffne App”. “App” is a substantive and should be spelled with a capital A.
  • However, you should rather use “App öffnen”for the sake of consistency (“Aktualisieren” is infinitive, “Öffne App” is imperative; also, infinitive is used everywhere else in SailfishOS).

weather place

  • “Keinen” -> “Keiner”. Nominative is used whenever nothing else is indicated.

weather main

  • “Wetter Standort” -> “Wetterstandort”. Those words are never separated by a space. If this word is too long to be displayed, try using a soft hyphen (U+00AD).

Messages app settings

message settings

  • “Gross”, “Extra gross” -> “Groß”, “Extra groß”. All German speaking regions except Switzerland and Liechtenstein use the sharp s.
  • “Beachte dass, dein Netzbetreiber…” -> “Beachte, dass dein Netzbetreiber oder der des Empfängers die Nachrichtengröße einschränken könnte”. This is so wrong that it hurts. Did you use Google Translate for that?

If you suspect that these regressions/mistakes appeared with Yliaavanlampi, could you mention this question in: ?

Unless you already did so, of course. :)

Also, "Extra groß" is not commonly used in German, I'd suggest to use "Sehr groß" instead.

Or "Riesig". Although that sounds kind of funny in this context.

@Venty still be better than Outlook's "Groß" < "Sehr groß" < "Riesengroß" < "Enorm groß" ;-)

It would be great if translations could be edited in a wiki-like tool by community soon. I am still finding little mistakes and I would really like to contribute fixing them easily.

Yes, true!

Indeed, translation / i18n is the default usecase for FLOSS projects and there are good services and techniques out there. I would recommend pootle before Translatewiki and instead of transifex.

Settings for Android apps in

English version:

  • Allow application background services to start on bootup (When this is off, you don't get app notifications)

Current German version:

  • Starten von Hintergrund-Diensten beim Einschalten erlauben (Diese Option deaktiviert auch Benachrichtigungen von Apps)

As the current German version is somewhat missleading, I propose the following translation:

  • Starten von Hintergrund-Diensten beim Einschalten erlauben (Deaktivierung dieser Option deaktiviert auch Benachrichtigungen von Apps)

But the suggestion from lakutalo is very good. Put the translations to an open platform, where signed-in users can contribute to it.

Maybe this is a little bit clearer or better:

Starten von Hintergrund-Diensten beim Einschalten erlauben (Wenn diese Option nicht aktiviert ist, wird auch die Benachrichtigung von Apps ausgeschaltet.)
