Dear Jolla gurus,

I'm new here, but I'm pretty interesting in owning a Jolla Phone/Tablet some day. As a hobby pilot i want to ask:

  • Is there any Software for pilots available for Jolla (like Cumulus for maemo from the old god times)?

  • Is the GLONASS sensor working in Flight mode (It is very important for pilots to have a navigation without the nasty disturbance on the radio because of the GSM/data signals)?

Thank you! Niko

For the second question: as far as I can see, no. In flight mode ANY radio activity seems to be disconnected, even the GPS/Glonass receiver. Have no idea why, maybe a multifunctional chip is disabled or something like that.

Edit: with the help of @rburkhanov I found out that above answer is a lie. The official Jolla-maps-app was able to activate GPS in flight mode in V. 1.1.1 and could be used normally. Sorry for confusion.

@Robomike It's not like this. Just turn flight mode on and you'll see positioning service is still available and can be turned on. And you can find your location using any map app. As well as GPS Info app shows all current location data.

Err, isn't it the same on ANY phone? Because that's precisely what I expect from flight mode: disconnect all radio activity. Not you?

Then if I want to use GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc... I just activate them separately.

So @nikistef: yes for your second question

Well the expectations of every single user could be quite different. I'm not sure if there are some standards in this area, also I don't know how do the smartphone developer decides which radio signal is disturbing for an Aircraft (assuming that this still is the aim of the 'Aircraft mode', even if its often used just to disappear from the mobile world). I just enjoy it very much that i can use my Xperia for flight navigation, so I still have working accelerometer, gyro and GPS/GLONASS; but WiFi, Cellular+3G+LTE, Bluetooth, NFC etc. are down and I have no disturbance on the radio. Looking around in the Android world I think not every phone is able of that (Samsung galaxy X? was not I think).

@Robomike Just turn flight mode on, it will turn off all your connections. Mobile data is grayed out now, but positioning can be turned back on. It looks like this now https://yadi.sk/i/RAy_65Uaew4Rb. Maps can show your location, GPS apps show all info.

I don't know why in your case satellite symbol is grayed out, mine is not. Sort of wierd… Possible bug?

@rburkhanov: Yes, you are right! :o I tried it again, and it wasn't working as before. But then I started the official jolla maps app, and GPS began to work, also for the other apps. Okay, so my answer is crap and I try to edit. (Have no idea why the one comment is an "answer" now too. I delete it - hate this software.)
