Why do you need the USB? SSH is more relaxing ;)

As a Edit: You could install Filezilla.

This is just a thought, but maybe people still enjy plug-and-pr.. krhm...sorry -play devices. ;) I don't mind tinkering a bit, I have MTP and SSH working and developer mode activated (only because I needed a proper IRC client). Slightly off-topic: But generally I don't like when a simple question like "How do I copy photos? is asked and the answer begins "Enable developer mode, ssh to your Jolla.... :)

@raketti: it's just a waste of time for connecting the cable ;D

@AmadeusXnet: I know but as I said, some prefer tradition over practicality. ;)

Yeah but a little change in life wont hurt ;D @raketti We both knows it's up to everyone how they want it. But hints is supposed to be welcomed as long as it's not negative :)

Jolla connects through USB via MTP mode. It works for me in Linux Mint Cinnamon (at times buggy though). 'patch for linux' is not really a request for Jolla - way too generic IMO. KDE, Gnome also use different MTP packages for instance.

Search for MTP in TJC if you are facing issues in USB connnection.

I rely on SSH more than USB.

Almost every desktop on linux uses libmtp. The only difference is if you use kio or gvfs (fuse) to mount it.

It is work, but current implementation restricted only internal memory, you can't see sdcard (not relevant to linux only), but on linux only first time after reboot phone I can get access to files, but after some time loose this possibility, I my opinion daemon slightly buggy.

I use Linux Mint / Cinnamon too (Mint 17, 32 bit). Although there is an error message ("Unable to mount Sailfish. Error initialising camera. Could not claim the USB device") it nevertheless does usually work, and I can also see the sdcard. As stated above, a little buggy - sometimes need to unplug / replug cable a couple of times

pedrox ( 2015-02-28 15:12:12 +0300 )edit

i wound about you can access to sdcard. Also on windows host i can see sdcard. In my opinion on this case problem on my phone side. My distr is Ubuntu 14.10 same packages base as Linux Mint.

This is definitely a Jolla problem as all my other devices work out-of-the-box with Ubuntu and MTP. Only Jolla doesn't.

I've simply installed mtpfs on several distros and that doesn't even require reboot. Just:

  1. Install mtpfs (should be on every repo)
  2. Plug in your Jolla with an usb cable
  3. Profit

Using mtpfs doesn"t work for me on Ubuntu 15.04. Jolla still is inaccessible from file browser and running mtpfs from terminal gives the error "fuse: missing mountpoint parameter".

Fedora 21 - libmtp and gvfs-mtp packages installed - plugin the USB cable, wait few seconds and phone and SD card are mounted and accessible.

Could you check if you have mtpfs installed? I chekced that I have both libmtp and gvfs-mtp installed, but I still needed the mtpfs for the phone to be recognised. Just to track this problem down so we could maybe create (or edit if there already is) a wiki page for this. Thanks in advance. :)

raketti ( 2015-03-01 10:54:32 +0300 )edit

Mageia 4 (which is quite close to fedora) mounts the Jolla filesystem. I don't have mtpfs installed.

@vattuvarg Do you also have support for SD-card mount? I've read that this is a problem for some, the internal memory is mounted, but the SD-card is missing.

Seems like the microSD card isn't mounted.

vattuvarg ( 2015-03-01 13:11:15 +0300 )edit

Could you try with installing the mtpfs if this solves the problem? Then I believe we have tracked down at least one solution for this. :)

This might not be an "Appropriate" solution but you could enable SSH and access the Phone Filesystem via SSHFS.

  1. On KDE or Gnome click on Network in a File Manager.
  2. Add a Network Folder
  3. Add Jolla Device Ip address with Username as nemo and folder as /home/nemo 4.Give the password you have set in your settings while enabling developer mode and external network connections.

You will get only the access which is given to the "nemo" user. Another way would be to just use ssh and become root via devel-su but thats another task!

Why on last minimum three releases mtp implementation not allow streaming files from jolla phone to linux host? When i try open file from SD-CARD or Internal Mem any software show message like this:

"impossible load image" image description

or like this: "not supported operation"

image description

PS: I can only copy file to local host storage and then open file content.
