Apparently, the indiegogo campaign for the Jolla tablet has been extended to March 2015 end. If you haven't yet placed an order for the new Jolla tablet, please post why you are hesitating and / or not interested?

(P.S: I am not associated with Jolla in any way - This is just to get some feedback that Jolla might find useful.)

This is a strange question. Is it mandatory for Jolla fans to purchase the tablet? Do people have to justify their decision not to buy the tablet? I bought it, and I am not quite sure why. I think that Sailfish is actually still kind of Beta or post-Beta. Basic functions are unfinished, some things are unreliable and apps are missing. The thing for me is that I don't like to use an Apple, nor a Microsoft device and I don't trust Google's Android. Nokia left a gap and I hope that Jolla can fill it some day. So there is no other choice for me at the moment and I try to support Jolla as much as possible. It would be a more interesting question why people buy Sailfish devices and accept deficiencies rather than why not...

@sifartech why are you asking feedback, are you involved with the tablet project, are you asking feedback on behalf of jolla?

teun ( 2015-02-28 21:47:42 +0300 )edit

@Stefanix, @teun - To clarify, I do not work for Jolla nor am I associated with their company, employees or investors in any way. I am one of their customers, and a big fan of Sailfish OS. As such, I would like to see its user base grow. The feedbacks here may help them fine tune their strategy to increase their sales in March ... just like how the earlier feedbacks on the hardware of the tablet led to the decision to upgrade some parts of the tablet to make it more useful / desirable ...

I won't invest another boatload of money on a tablet from Jolla, while my Jolla phone still doesn't work as I would expect it to. I don't want to stimulate Jolla to divert resources. First I want Sailfish sorted, then I might think sbout something else!

@dsilveira - +1 for your thought because I share the same sentiment too. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt though - most of the work on the tablet will still be related to Sailfish OS only, so it won't be much of a resource diversion, in my opinion. But yeah, they really should give some priority to getting the basic cellular features into Sailfish OS first ...

Because it's not avaible at the moment. If I spend so much money on a product I want to receive it within a week. But I will probably buy it when it's avaible for everyone in the store.

I think this is very good question. Purchasing a Jolla Tablet was an easy decision for me. Followed Jolla from day one - I'm not a Dev nor Geek. Didn't purchase a Jolla Phone because it was under spec'd and over priced - imagined if it was a OnePlusOne class phone - they would have sold a 1000 times more of them at 2/3rd the price each and made a lot more money to fund further development. The Jolla tablet on spec and price is very good value to me and ordered one immediately when it was made available for Australian delivery. My usage is keeping up with local and global news, emails and researching anything - don't need 3 or 4G connectivity - can tether my old Nokia n9 for the times I am away from home (I have not found a significantly better phone for me to change yet) The tablet screen size (8") is practical - can take it anywhere, stuff it anywhere when not in use. Battery life could be a little better, screen resolution is up there with the best, extra memory, laminated screen, processor speed is OK - a much faster processor does not increase viewing speed significantly - it's the quality of the core software and related apps that is the key. Tried DumbDroid, CrApple and MicroSlop - I have expectations that Sailfish OS will eventually deliver what I want - thats why I am supporting their efforts and also waiting to see what Jolla Phone 2 has to offer.

As long as there is no guarrantee of a fair manufacturing process I won't even concider buying the Jolla tablet. I would rather buy somthing like a Fujitsu tablet that is assembled in Germany or Japan.

Because wearily reported bugs in the phone block fundamental, simple features, that would otherwise be of practical value and usabilty to the uexp/ui. They don't get fixed properly with over two years of notice and if a tablet uses the same buggy ui, the bugfix neglected os is no use to me. Clipboard bugs belong in the 1980s (if not the 1970s).

Yes, I'm very interested, and very likely will buy Jolla Tablet as soon as I can my hands on it when I pay for it. Don't want to pay now and then wait for half a year to get the device.

I am confused - aren't you anyway forced to wait? So why not pay less now and wait, than wait and pay more later?

sifartech ( 2015-02-28 16:08:33 +0300 )edit

@sifartech I think he means to buy the tablet directly from a store when/if it hits the shelves, thus getting something in return for his money immediately, and not after a certain waiting period...

Kayakist ( 2015-02-28 16:21:37 +0300 )edit

@Kayakist - The thing is, you'll pay less now if you buy now. So it all kind of equals out anyway - immediate gratification vs a good deal ...

sifartech ( 2015-02-28 16:28:20 +0300 )edit

@sifartech Yes, I understand that very well, but I don't think the prospect of a lower price is the thing @MikaN is looking for, but getting something tangible in his hands immediately after forking over money for the device.

Kayakist ( 2015-02-28 16:38:29 +0300 )edit

@Kayakist - Each to his own, I guess. :)

I have a laptop (ThinkPad X220), it is a better working and playing device. Full size and good keyboard, 12.5 IPS screen, several interfaces and a docking station and much more hardware power. It is IBM-Compatible, I can install any operating system. On the other hand, I own and Jolla Smartphone for communication already.

A mere tablet is just a "looking" device, like a television or entertainment system. No need for that. If I would ever buy a tablet I would be actually a laptop-convertible, like the X220t, or a big tablet (>= 12 inches) with full IBM-Compatibility and external keyboard.

Would rather buy a larger phone, something like Sony Xperia Z3 with Sailfish.
