As originally was noted by @Tobbe in his question some UI details are not always convenient for right- or left-handed people.

To make my suggestion more visible to everybody I'm starting a new topic here by @hyper_sonic request.

I think it would be great to have a general option in setting to switch between right- and left-handed modes for ui. That would be really unlike. As @raketti originally wrote this could be implemented as a mirror UI -option.

Please, feel free to add your ideas here on how and what can be done to make Sailfish UI more adopted to people with different "best working" hands. Or for those who (like I do) can use both their hands equally depending on the situation.

There's just one thing in the UI that I have found that is "handness-dependent" and it is the placement of the "open" confirmation button in the lock screen PIN entry.

Incidentally that is actually better for left-handies, since it is in the far right lower corner which is difficult to reach with yout right-hand thumb without dropping the device! :)

@juiceme For Jolla phone it seems to be mostly about browser. But we have to keep in mind an upcoming tablet.

The UI should work for both the same, I do not want to have an UI that is specifically designed for one. If you refer to the browser - that is neither, the things on the right are easy to reach if I have it in my left palm the left is easy to reach if I have it in my right (long fingers). And honestly it should not be a problem to use my "other" hand occasionally and yet I did not have any problems but that some things are not designed for one-handed use, like the settings favourites being on top (fingers not that long).

@chemist Talking about browser what you say is right about portrait use only. But as we still don't have text reflow landscape mode is most usable to me. And with it you'll have problems using Jolla with one hand.

But landscape is considered a two-hand scenario?!

@chemist Hmmm… I don't know, somehow I can manage most task with just one hand even in landscape. ) And as I've written before in reply to @juiceme comment, we should any way keep in mind further development and Sailfish-powered tablets, where problem of right- and left-handness would be sharper.

Anyway, that was just an improvement idea, and if everybody would say they don't need it, they don't need it. )

I just want to make you aware that we probably need a layout that can be used with one hand or the other the same. I do not really see much one-handed or side-dependant use-cases for the tablet; you will need to lift your hand for that size anyway. So either Jolla gets its head out of its $ and introduces more gestures instead of buttons or we live with what we have and that means not all buttons can be at the same spot or the same side and that just because you cannot stack buttons on top of each other... and again another gesture would be needed to move the bottom bar to the edges you want it to be with certain gravity on buttons so they aggregate on the bottom more than on the top.

I think this could become especially important when we talk about how 2.0 will be realised on the phone. I could imagine that the events screen, which is gorgeous, could move from being stuck on the left side of the home screen to being swipeable from right/ left (and therefore beeing accecible from everywhere!) depending on which hand you are using your jolla with. the other side should then still minimise the current app. I know that not being able to use both sides for minimising is not something everybody likes, but during the last 6 month of using jolla, I have only used the right swipe gesture to minimise (holding it with the right hand) and always wondered why the left side should be left unused! This is important because the eventsview-from-left (/right)-thing is only possible if there is a setting to change the site in order to keep it working for both left and right handers :)

I join what chemist told in his answer above.
The problem is for sailfish 2.0 (maybe others) it doesn't fullfiled it.
That is for me clearly a mix up for right handed and left handed people

my example would be for the event panel, if one event appears to delete it, we make a long pull and then appears the delete button (cross) on the left side.
That'S handy for left handed users but not right handed.
that made me nervous!!!

gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
