I have the urge to close all not needed apps after I used them to save battery and system resources. I am not sure if this really makes sense, but can imagine I am not the only one acting like this. So I think there should an easy and quick way to open frequently needed apps. My suggestion: there should be the option to reserve some of the cover positions for certain apps. If not active, there could be a grayed out image of that app. Tapping it would start it. This mechanism would provide optional shortcuts plus give selected apps a fixed position on the home screen, e.g. not let them flip around in order of the last used app. It means quick start plus quick intuitive access to the running app.

(Since this is an opinion thread, I will state my opinion.) :)

I think it's better to have no shortcuts on the home screen because there is more space for application covers. Sailfish has excellent true multitasking. Once an application is running, I can access it by simply touching the running cover.

Since the applications I use the most often are usually already running, having both the cover AND the shortcuts on the home screen are redundant.

Agree. Shortcuts take too much space and they don't follow the sailfish smooth buttonless experience. The homescreen also looks cleaner and more beautiful without extra clutter.
