When I tap on the camera button to take the picture, just nothing happens. It makes the picture sharp but does not take and save it. Recording a video works, just the picture taking does not. The OS is on version 1.1.2.16. Any ideas?

Have you tried restarting Camera? Fixed it for me.

...or restarting the phone? maybe also copying the existing pictures from the pictures folder away and then from developer command line tracker reset (try to search for the command from this forum)...

Open terminal, gain root access (devel-su - password). Enter this command pkcon remove jolla-camera«enter» then pkcon install jolla-camera«enter» after that, reboot the phone and camera should be functioning again.

The problem was caused by a defective SD card. I was using the SD card as camera storage and it looks like the SD card is somehow broken. Nothing can be written anymore, the Kernel thinks it's readonly and trying to access it in an SD card adapter on my notebook leads to strange Kernel panics. Ordering a new one right now. Thanks for the suggestions!
