As inductive charging is already tagged "out-of-scope" and as there is no 'other half' to the Jolla tablet, please add a charger connector like the Nokia symbian phones used to have one. This should not remove the possibility to charge via micro USB, but add a second route as it was with the Nokia E6.

  1. This will largely reduce wear of the USB connector.
  2. Charger connector does not wear out as easily as the USB socket does.
  3. Charger connector does dot get infested with malware as USB connector does (http://is.gd/qsRNNg)

There is no need to add a charger featuring that coaxial plug. Just add an adaptor USB-socket-to-charger-plug. A defective charger can easily be replaced. A defective USB connector requires soldering whithin the tablet.

Don't think this is a state-of-the-art approach in times when wireless charging spreads out. I would need such proprietary charger at each location and could throw it away for each new phone model ....

Not sure this is a good idea. There should be a universal standard, currently which is fulfilled by the micro usb

As an addition to usb charging, to reduce wear, it is in principle not a bad idea. I don't think it should be implemented directly on the phone, but it could be a feature for an Other Half.

However I see the problem that there is no single standard for coaxial charger plugs. Therefore a wireless charger TOH would make much more sense.

Alternatively, you could file down the two nobs on a usb cable to make it easyer to remove from the usb device. I have done that on all my micro-usb cables and never had any usb trouble. I know its not a real solution but it works :)

There is regulation against it in the making.

That's not correct - as long as a common charge port (e.g. micro USB or successor) is available, a phone manufacturer can certainly provide additional charging options ....

Speaking of which, I wonder how Apple still manages to get away with their proprietary charging plug on iphone in Europe. :)

Jolla Roadmapping Meeting - 07.04.2015

Thank you for your contribution to the Jolla Tablet project! We receive a lot of ideas and suggestions, which we are grateful for, but all of them can't be implemented. We've reviewed your idea and unfortunately it is not something we can implement, at least right now. However, we will keep all suggestions, and might revisit this decision in the future if we see an opportunity to implement this feature-request in an upcoming product.

Eric on behalf of the Jolla Tablet Team
