Detachable Camera [off-topic]

Using the concept of "Other Half", in a future device would be nice to have the camera detachable in a way to get a device without camera (like first phones with cameras e.g. Siemens S55 / Ericsson T68i).
This would be useful for people working in restricted areas where no cameras are allowed (e.g. many companies in product development) to use their phone without camera in business and with camera in private time.
Additionally this will provide the possibility to upgrade or provide several camera modules (webcamera, 3d-camera, optical-zoom-camera, thermographic camera, night-vision, ...).
Don't know the market for this kind of phones, but actually there is nearly no smartphone without camera available. (I use a rare model of Blackberry Bold without camera).
I wonder what image quality / video quality would be possible to transfer over i2c, if there was a TOH with a nice camera? And could it be done by using the existing camera as only the viewfinder and the TOH camera using its own image sensor (a high quality one)? If possible, it would be a great TOH

Maybe with an image processor and it's own memory and then slowly transferring the image to the main system, but i'm guessing here. Will get bulky tough. Really wish the sensor was detachable/replaceable.
Oliver ( 2014-01-07 19:01:08 +0300 )editAs mentioned it is an idea for a future device, then of cause you also have to think about interfaces. Why not think about extending the actual interface (i2c,nfc) with a "broadband" interface (usb, ethernet, ...). Think outside the border :-)
