Update: We'll start rolling out the update to everyone today. If possible, update with the device connected to a charger. If you have phonehook from OpenRepos installed uninstall it before upgrading.

Please ensure that you have ~1.5GB of free disk space before attempting to upgrade your Jolla. If connected to the internet, and your account is subscribed for early access releases, your Jolla should receive an OS update notification shortly.

As usual,

  • If you use phonehook from OpenRepos, uninstall it before upgrading
  • If you use patchmanager, revert all applied patches before upgrading
  • If your device is running software version lower than 1.0.4.20 and have WareHouse app installed (i.e you are using OpenRepos), disable all openrepo repositories before attempting to upgrade your device.
  • Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress.
  • The device screen may blank out during the update process, you may waken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress.

Upgrade version history

  • 1.1.4.28 (15.4.2015): Initial early access release
  • 1.1.4.29 (28.4.2015): Fix 'peek to events possible on locked device' and 'duplicate caldav calendars'

Highlights

  • Split keyboard in landscape mode, with option to turn it off
  • IMAP implementation now has support for idle/push
  • Maps now supports landscape orientation
  • Facebook API has been updated to 2.2, which unfortunately causes loss of features (chat or contacts sync, see the end of the roadmap email). We are awaiting an approval of the new implementation from Facebook, until then you will unfortunately experience a broken Facebook account (including being unable to share status message and photos).

Known issues

OS update process

  • If you have phonehook from OpenRepos installed uninstall it before upgrading.
  • Currently, checks on available disk space happens very late during the OS upgrade process and will fail in the installation phase if the disk space is low. Normally there should be an error note asking you to free some disk space and try again, but in some marginal cases it might not be shown. Should this happen, free some disk space and try to install the OS update again.
  • OS update may fail due to some other reasons too, for example it may have installed some packages from the new release and still have something left from the old. If the device can boot up, you can try to recover by doing the following. If not, you can attempt to recover the device using the recovery mode.
    • Delete the file /home/nemo/.cache/store-client/os-info
    • Stop the store-client process (for e.g. pkill store-client)
    • Reopen Settings app, check for updates again and attempt to install the OS update again
  • We have also noted that if the OS update is attempted while there is long queue of installation of apps from the Store, the system may end up in mixed state (for e.g. select all the apps from startup wizard, and start the system update already while the apps are being installed).
    • In such cases, the OS update appears to be stalled, however it is just waiting for the installations to complete before attempting to upgrade the OS. Just wait patiently, the worst thing to do here is to reboot the device!

Other issues

  • calDAV and cardDAV services are in experimental stage. We have made some improvements with this update, however you may still face issues with certain service providers. Do report it in t.j.c. We'll take a look and try to sort it out.
  • Deleting photo from Camera roll may also delete the previous photo. If camera reel's pulley menu has "Show details" greyed out - means the photo hasn't been indexed yet. Deleting photo in such state will result in previous photo deleted too. If you wait long enough (~10-15seconds) for 'Show details' to become active, only that photo will get deleted when you choose to.

Already got it ;)

I like it so far, smooth in general, feels tighter, quicker, more responsive over all. Not long now and we'll be talking about Sailfish OS 2.0 :)

As according to the full changelog in the seperate post, the "some calDAV improvements" that are talked about are not more than "Use ignore_ssl_errors configuration option"?

Update failed at first, ended up "between" the versions, without icons for example. I don't hack my Jolla much, and this was the first update causing any kind of smallest trouble. However, updating on second try was successful.

The installation process was quite slow. The new version has a significant improvement in the responsiveness of the device.

if I'm already on the 1.1.4.28 due upgrading via ssu re latest; version --dup how to update to the latest changes? via pkcon?

First: Directly updating via pkcon is dangerous, and may brick your device. version --dup avoids this, but does not do repository isolation, and may break your device if you have 3rd party repositories enabled during update.

Second: Releases are available on public infrastructure a short time before releasing so we're capable of doing update tests exactly as it'll be for end users. This means, if there are problems breaking your device on update they'll show up in that short period between "available on public infra" and "early access" -- and breaking your device during that period will _not_ be covered by warranty. We do not actively prevent anyone from getting their hands on those "close to release" versions, but you should only use it if you know the risks, and have a rescue system prepared to restore your device in case of failure.

In your case, try setting the release version to 1.1.4.28 by doing "ssu re 1.1.4.28", and update through the store client.

Fist one update... I don't like update anymore at all..

Lets move on. I update -> looks fine, but it's always says there is new update.. I think i have so much odd thinks going one again (accounts suddenly removed example), so maybe i do reset and start again....... and that was BIG mistage!

Reset my phone, only think i do is update and i can update, but not that latest 1.1.4, only rebooted everytime.. Reset my phone again! Only update. When i get it again in 1.1.4 update, it installing in black screen. Then it reboot, but only RED led is on, i think i wait.... and i wait... and i wait.. only red light. Power putton is not working, so battery remove -> Rebootloop and there i am. I have only 0.0.1 recovery and phone reset is not working anymore.. i am so sad... and mad...

How i can make reset anymore with recovery 0.0.1?

@Sthocs I think, i choose "easy way out" :D. But i think my Jolla is broken and way to repair :). Hope it will work more stable after that. It lost too often very important files (got blank People app, suddenly removed Accounts, removed Gallery info and so on). Maybe memory fault.. Some pictures get corrupted too.

My jolla to repair in sunday and back to me friday. No it's very good! Like new Äijänpäivänjärvi update. Only browser annoying me now. The OS is very smooth and love new edge swipe!

The standard camera app seems to work fine for me, but if I use QR code scanning (SailOTP or SGAuth), after the code gets scanned the camera "freezes" and won't work again until I restart the device. I just get black screen (with UI) on the camera app and Cameraplus gets just the app icon. Both also get the "should this app be closed or do you want to wait" warning. I don't think the camera froze when I added accounts earlier on older firmware.

Tried to Update, but at some point Phone screen blacked out and red LED flashing fast. Buttons wouldn't work, so the only choice was to remove battery. So I did and thank god phone is working just fine now. The only thing is, I am not able to download the update! Says, "Problem with Store".

Cleaning cache didn't help. Also made the phone to get stuck in always lid red LED. Needed battery removal again. Tried to sign out from Jolla account, restarted and signed in again and restarted and tried to update. Alien Dalvik stopped, Patches removed from PatchManager.

Nothing! WTF

After the update the keyboard does not show in native apps for me. After moving the cursor to editable field nothing happens, as if the keyboard is not called at all. In Android apps, there is a blank space for keyboard popping up but nothing is displayed for the alphanumeric keyboard. Number keyboard is shown fine in both android and native apps.

Also, maps are still in portrait mode and do not turn to landscape.

I think you can workaround this bug by choosing a different default keyboard layout in settings. Just try. Maybe the layout you used before broke.

For me the CalDAV synchronization with OwnCloud stopped working. I have not yet had time to debug this further, but here's what I discovered so far:

1) With original account, nothing get synchronized in either way

2) With re-created account events from OwnCloud appeared in Jolla Calendar, but not from Jolla to OwnCloud. Also annoyingly every time I sync, I get new "Default Calendar" to Jolla Calnedar (as viewed from "Manage Calendars").

I'll try to find time during weekend to check the server logs.

I just updated to 1.1.4.29. Now the calendars are present only once as expected. However, if I create event in Jolla and synchronize, the event is postponed with one hour in Jolla, but correct in ownCloud calendar. If I create event in ownCloud side, the times are correct in Jolla and ownCloud.

I think I have not noticed this kind of behavior earlier...

Playlists list after the update show 0 songs, entering a playlist songs appear ok. I had a similar behaviour with previous updates too. One workaround is to add a song to a play list, then it displays the correct number of tracks included in that list.

The first paragraph of this post: "About 0.8% of the devices have statefs missing after the upgrade, which -- unless developer mode is already installed -- can only be fixed by factory reset. We're putting the rollout on hold until at least Monday to investigate."
