Update: We'll start rolling out the update to everyone today. If possible, update with the device connected to a charger. If you have phonehook from OpenRepos installed uninstall it before upgrading.

Please ensure that you have ~1.5GB of free disk space before attempting to upgrade your Jolla. If connected to the internet, and your account is subscribed for early access releases, your Jolla should receive an OS update notification shortly.

As usual,

  • If you use phonehook from OpenRepos, uninstall it before upgrading
  • If you use patchmanager, revert all applied patches before upgrading
  • If your device is running software version lower than 1.0.4.20 and have WareHouse app installed (i.e you are using OpenRepos), disable all openrepo repositories before attempting to upgrade your device.
  • Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress.
  • The device screen may blank out during the update process, you may waken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress.

For detailed instructions on updating software, visit Zendesk

Upgrade version history

  • 1.1.4.28 (15.4.2015): Initial early access release
  • 1.1.4.29 (28.4.2015): Fix 'peek to events possible on locked device' and 'duplicate caldav calendars'

Highlights

  • Split keyboard in landscape mode, with option to turn it off
  • IMAP implementation now has support for idle/push
  • Maps now supports landscape orientation
  • Facebook API has been updated to 2.2, which unfortunately causes loss of features (chat or contacts sync, see the end of the roadmap email). We are awaiting an approval of the new implementation from Facebook, until then you will unfortunately experience a broken Facebook account (including being unable to share status message and photos).
  • Better swipe feedback

Security fixes

CVE-2015-0245 CVE-2014-9402 CVE-2013-7423 CVE-2014-9402 CVE-2015-1472 CVE-2015-1473 CVE-2014-9092 CVE-2014-3571 CVE-2015-0206 CVE-2014-3569 CVE-2014-3572 CVE-2015-0204 CVE-2015-0205 CVE-2014-8275 CVE-2014-3570 CVE-2014-9636 CVE-2014-8139 CVE-2014-9636 CVE-2014-9622 CVE-2015-1349

Known issues

OS update process

  • If you have phonehook from OpenRepos installed uninstall it before upgrading.
  • Currently, checks on available disk space happens very late during the OS upgrade process and will fail in the installation phase if the disk space is low. Normally there should be an error note asking you to free some disk space and try again, but in some marginal cases it might not be shown. Should this happen, free some disk space and try to install the OS update again.
  • OS update may fail due to some other reasons too, for example it may have installed some packages from the new release and still have something left from the old. If the device can boot up, you can try to recover by doing the following. If not, you can attempt to recover the device using the recovery mode.
    • Delete the file /home/nemo/.cache/store-client/os-info
    • Stop the store-client process (for e.g. pkill store-client)
    • Reopen Settings app, check for updates again and attempt to install the OS update again
  • We have also noted that if the OS update is attempted while there is long queue of installation of apps from the Store, the system may end up in mixed state (for e.g. select all the apps from startup wizard, and start the system update already while the apps are being installed).
    • In such cases, the OS update appears to be stalled, however it is just waiting for the installations to complete before attempting to upgrade the OS. Just wait patiently, the worst thing to do here is to reboot the device!

Other issues

  • calDAV and cardDAV services are in experimental stage. We have made some improvements with this update, however you may still face issues with certain service providers. Do report it in t.j.c. We'll take a look and try to sort it out.
  • Deleting photo from Camera roll may also delete the previous photo. If camera reel's pulley menu has "Show details" greyed out - means the photo hasn't been indexed yet. Deleting photo in such state will result in previous photo deleted too. If you wait long enough (~10-15seconds) for 'Show details' to become active, only that photo will get deleted when you choose to.

Already got it ;)

I like it so far, smooth in general, feels tighter, quicker, more responsive over all. Not long now and we'll be talking about Sailfish OS 2.0 :)

As according to the full changelog in the seperate post, the "some calDAV improvements" that are talked about are not more than "Use ignore_ssl_errors configuration option"?

@Markkyboy you're faster than greased lightning bolt :p

I just only now got the popup that the update is ready to be downloaded :)

Update failed at first, ended up "between" the versions, without icons for example. I don't hack my Jolla much, and this was the first update causing any kind of smallest trouble. However, updating on second try was successful.

The installation process was quite slow. The new version has a significant improvement in the responsiveness of the device.

Upgrading my 1st Jolla went just fine. Now I got a problem with trying upgrading my "spare" Jolla just normally via UI. At about 50% it got stuck and gave me a message " Sailfish OS could not be updated. Please try again later." Then I connected to Jolla via ssh from terminal and tried manual upgrade and
I got funny error after manual update via ssh "version --dup" Any ideas?

[W] QDBusConnectionPrivate::serviceOwnerChangedNoLock:1280 - QDBusConnection: name 'org.freedesktop.PackageKit' had owner '' but we thought it was ':1.903' Refreshing: 9% Error: Cannot write file '/var/tmp/AP_0xJThZOj/repodata/repomd.xml'.

The upgrade could NOT be finished. Make sure you have a working Internet Connection and SSU is propertly set up. In case the repos are changing rapidly (e.g. during development), just restarting the upgrade might fix the issue.

REBOOT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

[root@Jolla nemo]#

I just tried again, restarting the upgrade did not fix the issue :( May this be related to store credentials not received even though I got the update info via working Jolla-Store login??? Appreciate any ideas, commends, help!

PS: After rebooting, I'm still in 1.1.2.16 but UI fully functional. Backing up everything and trying the update again!

Everything works now! After rebooting and just performing the update, downloading and installing again, it was running fully through to the end and booted into 1.1.4.28 without any problems :-) I have no idea what has caused the issue of interrupting the update at around 50% and me not being able to proceed even via "version --dup" in terminal using SSH. No worries any more :D I hope this does not happen to any ordinary user!

I've tried to upgrade a few times, it reboots to the Sailfish installation progress bar, then says 'Sailfish OS could not be updated. Please try again later." And that's it!

I have many gigs free and developer mode on. Not sure what else to check really :/

Sounds like you need to do a recover :-/ Hope you've made a backup! Besides loosing the apps your settings and other stuff you just recover, still it's time-consuming to get all apps back and sorted in the right folders. If you can boot in some not fully functional UI it would be easier to fully recover via ssh. Please check the recover instructions and good luck! Exacty this happend to me at the privious update, and I've learn to calm down after that ;-)

Android apps can't access all photos in Gallery. I noticed just that all of my Android apps only see the first 264 photos from the Camera folder. I tried:

  • Refreshing the media database from Sailfish Utilities
  • Rebooting the device

Neither of the above had any effect, still the most current photos aren't shown. For some reason PixlrExpress is able to see the most recent photo, it has a "Fresh" option, which shows the last picture/photo edited/taken.

1.1.4.29 totally broke my cardDav with posteo, no numbers/email are there, just names. Phone only shows Numers. Resetting account and setting up again did not work. Lots of programms hang massivley, like email or cargo dock. Seems like a total recall for me, REALLY has a long road to got this one. Sad, because over all much more snappy and speedy. But without cardav and email not working its just piece of nuttin.

Some bugs I ran into since I have 1.1.4.2x installed:

  • Car (bluetooth): Shows constantly 100% battery charge, even if the battery is almost empty
  • Car (bluetooth): The signal strength is not updated correctly (2/5 bars even if no signal at all)
  • Whole day events are not synced correctly with my Kolab server over Active Sync (Kolab shows two days)
  • The Store app does not show a loading-cover when it gets launched

Apart from that, the update is really great and all-over smoothness is much better :)

Can't update! I've tried several times already. The download starts, after just some minutes it says it's ready for installation - althought the download progress does not actually seems to go to the end.

When I try to install, it briefly starts when suddenly the message "Sailfish OS could not be updated. Please try again later. The device will restart now".

I've already tried the hints on the beginning of this post (updating apps), but it didn't solve the issue. Can anyone help me, please???
