It's somehow disturbing that swipe (from side) is overindicated since Äijänpäivänjärvi release. I'd like to see a setting that allows one to choose which way he/she wants. The earlier visualisation was intuitive enough, I don't see what's the point for this change. When there's lots of content on page, the new one is confusing because two effects are shown simultaneously.

It also feels that peeking e.g. time from home screen requires more effort than before.

So, my suggestion is: to add Settings option "classic swipe indication".

I suggest to revert back to the original which was really good.

The point is probably trying to please complaining people. I also liked the previous version, but I think the new one is fine too, just a matter of getting used to.

Well you can't please everybody. This is not an iPhone.

I like new animation. If you swiiiipe sloooow effect can be not good, but if you swipe it fast enough it looks awesome.

You also have to swipe further to see what you want to see. Old one was way better.

rooster13 ( 2015-04-18 11:42:30 +0300 )edit

what you want to see? o_O

i was waiting for someone to post about it, to make me sure i wasnt the only one. i find this new way a very dissapointing feature. previous transitions were just perfect. sometimes i would even caight myself peeking back and front constantly. thats how cool and amusinv it was for me. now it looks ugly and somehow gives feeling of unfinished and buggy feature.

Battery, time, home screen of course. What did you think o_O

I like the new transition better, I also used the swipe feedback patch for Patchmanager.

yeah, i'm happy to know there are just few disappointed people, and i think Jolla shouldn't change anything just to please them. we like new transitions!

I'm also annoyed by the new animation. Got used to peek the homescreen a lot by barley moving my thumb from the edge of the screen which is just not working anymore :( Peeking now requires a much larger gesture (at least feels like that to me) which kind of destroys the appeal of it...

iPhones do not please me :) i like the new animations a lot more. Needs half a day to get used to it, but then it swipes like a charm.

When I swipe very quickly, it looks like the animation would be lagging even though it is not, it's just this new swipe animation breaking the smooth view for a moment...

William ( 2015-04-18 15:38:20 +0300 )edit

It's very smooth and not lagging for me. Maybe just thresholds should be tuned more fine.

coderus ( 2015-04-18 15:40:10 +0300 )edit

It is not lagging in real, but if you do it really quickly, the effect itself looks like something would be lagging. (It makes the canvas break, which is the goal, but it just looks weird when happens quickly.)

I have different opinion. It looks good for me.

Through the new animation the gesture to peek has become more tedious. I don't see the benefit either. I assume that the reasoning would be to give better feedback when an app is minimized. Further the animation might work better on the larger tablet screen. However, think this could easily be made configurable.

Yes @coderus, this is only an opinion for me as well and not a crucial feature, therefore I did not even vote for this question. Just commented.

I'm also in the list of people who did prefer the old swipe animations. As I don't think there'll ever be a swipe action that everyone agrees on, I'd quite like to see a configuration option (in the settings menu) to enable to old/classic version for those of us who prefer that.

Maybe someone who is still on update 11 or 12 (1.1.2.16) could upload their /usr/share/lipstick-jolla-home-qt5/compositor.qml So we could try to find the strings to do the reversion...

J4ZZ ( 2015-04-27 16:58:40 +0300 )edit

and yu will do it for every new version? :D

That gradient is much better than the sharp edge. But IMHO the previous implementation was just fine, and reverting to that doesn't require any further development. That's the reason I suggest(ed) adding the "classic swipe indication" setting.

I do not care that Jolla can't please everybody or that some people like it: please add an option to revert to the previous behavior.

Anyway, I think we can have a look to /usr/share/lipstick-jolla-home-qt5/compositor.qml to manually revert back (maybe by comparing with the old file, I have a backup of the old firmware). Or even better, please provide documentation to customize the UI (just kidding, I known that Jolla does not provide any documentation).

There is always people who do not like any eye candy! Always have to use ugliest and lightest OS's, i don't get it...

I like new animation! The swipe feedback was better, but this is good. I hope Jolla will use more and more smooth animations. People likes candy ;).
