I've manually configured an outlook.com email address on my device using IMAP, and 'Always up-to-date' is not an option in the Sync menu. I've also tried the automatic option too, to no avail.

It works fine with my GMail account which is auto-configured when adding a Google account.

IMAP IDLE fine for my private dovecot IMAP server.
I think outlook.com doesn't support IMAP IDLE, other devices that get outlook.com emails pushed are using the EAS ActiveSync protocol.

Yup, that's correct outlook does not support IMAP IDLE. Exchange ActiveSync is the recommended option by Microsoft
