I am curious of the goal of the NFC on the Jolla:

Is it only for the connection with TOH as we see everywhere ?
or does it allow "standard" usage, like quick pairing with bluetooth/payement/electronic tickets ?

What I find intriguing is that I read everywhere about the NFC/TOH consumption bug, that the NFC should be off when an other half is on the phone.

yes it leave NFC off until bug fixed. But I also wonder if NFC will be wider supported than just OTH. But for that to happen there need to be an developer API to play with. I personally want tpo port my NFCWallet app from harmattan.

Indeed it is. But what an odd design decision. I can understand "NFC: Yes or No", but I can't understand "NFC: Yes, but cripple it"

Using NFC for something like TOH ambiance thing is really awkward and a strange design decision. Hope the i2c bus will be able to transfer at a descent rate even if it's not a high speed bus and has limited use.

This actually feels very strange decision indeed. There would be way cooler things to use NFC than with TOH only, which build quality wont make you want to change TOH too often anyway.

@Oliver Many NFC chips are connected with i2c, SPI or basic serial connection. For example the PN532 that is popular with arduino shields can use any of these. And besides, NFC/RFID is slow and no proper amount of data is transfered over it anyway. Data transfers are handed over to bluetooth/wlan.
