I would like to have an extra option for an alarm to work as chimes instead of having to dismiss it.

It could be configured to ring only once a day - no more bother how to dismiss a snoozed alarm - or on a periodic basis in general.

A set of suitable sounds would be a plus, like the classical Westminster quarters or Københavns Rådhusklokkerne.

Or wouldn't it be original having a ship bell striking all six duty watches on a Jolla? Maybe not all six of them, but at least those I am on deck.

The question sounds familiar, though I cannot be ar$ed to look up if it is a duplicate or not. My reply may therefore look familiar too.

On my old Palm OS smartphone made in 2004, I had settings per alarm:

  • The alarm time (obviously :))
  • The length of time the alarm would sound for
  • The number of repeats
  • The auto-snooze interval
  • The number of repeats after auto-snooze
  • What else should happen on the alarm

So, you could do for example,

  1. Sound an alarm at 06:30
  2. Play the first 20 seconds of a longer tune
  3. Wait 10 seconds, then go to step 2
  4. Repeat 5 times
  5. If nothing happens, snooze for 5 minutes, then go to step 2
  6. Repeat 3 times, then give up
  7. Switch back from flight mode, check emails and update pre-set currency rates

Or,

  1. Sound an alarm at 06:30 once
  2. That's it, nothing more

Admittedly, it was a third-party application. The built-in alarm was simpler. About as much as the Jolla alarm except it had an option to set the tone and the snooze interval per alarm.

Actually, this sounds like an idea for a third-party Sailfish app :)
