I think the following is a bug and should be fixed: After turning WLAN off, the phone persists on popping up 'select network connection' when an app that needs network access is opened. This happened with OsmAnd and offline maps (Android app), opening Here maps (just to test it), browser, email and some other apps (tried all of them separately). The behaviour was correct in flight mode, though.

This is by design and allows you to choose to start the network connection when something requests/requires it, or not. If you choose to cancel it, the connection request will be suppressed for a short amount of time.
When WLAN is turned off, it is turned off with the purpose of not having it on. Timeout takes long and makes, for example, off-line maps virtually unusable. I used my Jolla for off-line navigation for an 8hr drive and due to the lengthy timeouts, it could hardly be used at all.

I don't want the question in my face every now and then because an application wants to connect. I'd rather have an error from the application.

If you start NavFree while having WLAN( or data), then switch to Flight Mode, you will be able to drive safely. But if you start NavFree without internet connection, and then switch to Flight Mode, the WLAN connection dialogue will constantly popup. You need to tap the phone at leat one per minute, this while driving. Not good.
tomtom ( 2014-08-12 16:00:25 +0300 )editI downloaded HERE for Android beta and tried to use that while offline for navigation. Connection dialog opens every fifth second and this is REALLY annoying. Offline navigation is useless with this connection dialog.
I think that there should be at least possibility to tell "Do not ask again for connection" and it should be remembered at least as long as application is shut down. Now connection is asked too often! Every fifth secon in HERE for Android. And that's waaaay too much while driving a car. It shouldn't ask it at all, only when starting an application and remembering my choice rest of time until application is closed.
In earlier versions timeout for asking again for connection was a lot longer than it's in 1.0.8.21. I really hope there comes a good solution for this problem. Offline navigation is a big thing for me and now it's impossible because of this.

What do you think the phone should do when WLAN is toggled off and there is no mobile data connection (no SIM card inserted) and user makes somethjng that requires network connection?
foss4ever ( 2014-01-03 04:35:50 +0300 )editWLAN should stay off when it has been toggled off. A simple (and single) notification that WLAN is not on should be enough. Now, I have to lock and unlock the screen to get rid off it since the message & request to choose network are persistent.

Additionally, I have discovered that the WLAN selection sxreen pops up when using the camera, so even background processes can initiate that selection dialog (that must be clicked away); So, I think this is a bug, that should be fixed; if WLAN is toggled.off it means user does not want to use it..

It's a shame that there is no native offline map for sailfish i was using halftrail but can't figure out how download offline map and it have the option to disable require for internet connection :) very clever indeed ;)
