Whenever I take off my TOH I find the Jolla looks so much slicker without it, that I'd really wish for an extremly thight fitting TOH, maybe made from aluminium.

Another idea could be a "round" half, much like the back of a Pre3 or a Galaxy Nexus. This way it wouldn't look too chubby either and with rounded corners it would be smoother in the hand...

Is something like this available? Is it even possible?

The tablet is pretty much that design, slightly thicker though.

Edited to be less misguiding.

"much like the back of a Pre3 or a Galaxy Nexus" - regarding this part it probably has to be assumed that if something is made to be "like" something else, law suits will follow. Remember Samsung and Apple. Much safer to stay on the "unlike" side of things...

So much for sure, I meant it to be just a rounded backcover, without sharp edges. Not a lawsuit copycat cover.

I can build that. It's quite easy with a Dremel. Who needs that HW anyways, long live software ;-)

EDIT: this answer does not apply anymore since the question was changed.

Dremel TOH?

lispy ( 2015-05-07 14:27:22 +0300 )edit

@lispy dremel is a mark of power tool https://www.dremeleurope.com. he means he could arrange it so that is tighter. i think it is just an hardware mod without change of the nfc chip... he should confirm it

@cemoi71:

  1. like mentioned, my answer does not apply anymore.
  2. Sure I'd change the nfc chip. Before: one big chip, afterwords: many small ones!
  3. Dremel TOH doesn't sound like such a bad idea...

@Jolly-Jo
1. i know, ihave read it. but was anyway an interesting point.
2. if you want, you must not do it. let the old one is pretty the same.
3. never told the contrary. i found indeed that is an intersting idea. i am curious if you make the jump.
have good time.

If you want rounded corners and smoothness, BumperTOH could be the way to go. But it is not slimmer than the original, for sure.

It can hardly can get any slimmer than the original (if you still want a working Jolla inside, that is), and rounded corners always need extra space.

Given that the standard TOH 'adds' 1mm to the design, I don't think there are thinner possibilities.

Maybe real carbonfiber, but that will be fragile, very expensive and not very scratch resistant. Alu will block all your antennas. Bad plan.

Lets hope J2 will bring other possibilities.

Hehe...all of you are right of course. Thanks for the feedback. I was just thinking that maybe a different look and feel could make it "seem" thinner...it's not important, just looks. Functionality is much more important.

You could print a TOH that adds a few cm extra width and height to the phone, this would most definitely make it seem thinner :-b
