When the Calendar is minimized to a Cover it shows the appointments of the current day. I think it would be nice, to also see future appointments.

+1. Also remove the happenings that are already over.

Yes. At the moment the Cover shows the first two appointments of that day and it stays that way the whole day long. If there are more than 2 appointments for that day, it should hide the one that is already over and show the next one.

It would be useful to see into tomorrow's first events as well, when there are <2 left for today. The event time line could accommodate something like "Tomorrow hh::mm" for that

+1. Some number of future events should be visible in the Cover with event date showing. Maybe time for future date events can be dropped if there's not enough space.

The cover doesn't have to display end time. Then each event could occupy one line. As it is now, my cover just shows two people having a birthday. Being able to exclude certain calendars from the active cover would therefore also be a good idea. Or for birthdays just: «Birthdays today: 2»

Another possibility (which I'd personally prefer) is if it could show the next event in the lock screen, like WP ( and others?) do. I really use my phone's calendar, so it'd be nice to see the next event just by waking the phone.

one "clever" way to do this might be to make the next calendar appointment be an alert/notification so it shows in the lock screen (in a natural way), and can then be clicked through to via the events screen.

This needs to be configurable (only selected calendars and only if requested by user), for privacy and security.

I think this should be a setting the user could choose. For example:
- Show next five upcoming events
- Show todays upcoming calendar entries
- Use whole cover space to show all details of next upcoming event
- Show number of events occurring on each of following five days

obviously, there shouldnt be endless options, but a few different ones would greatly improve usability

Don't you think the notification page could be a better place for future appointments?

As a reminder, yes, but not for a "static" view.

Configurability would of course be the best solution. I would like the notification page (or the lock page) to be same kind as the feed page on Harmattan. Lock page can't be scrollable so I think the Notification page would suit better for showing the list of calendar events.
