Whatsup usage, 2 general questions [off-topic]

Hi Folks, couple of quick questions if someone can clear them up for me please about general whatsup use:

1. When sending media/a picture, is it not possible to add a message to it at the same time like I used to on whatsapp? The way it appears you have to do it is to open the contact/pull the pulley menu up/ add media/then send/ then write separate text and send - if that's how it is then I can live with that but I seems to recall I ould add an image then a message/then send in whatsapp?

2. Contacts. Can all phone contacts be imported into the list? It seems I have sto 'star/favourite' a contact, then go back into whatsup/refresh the list, and then it appears, is that the only way for now?

I'm fine if the way I'm having to do it now is the way it is, so long as I know I'm not missing something obvious ;)
