Back in the days of dinosaurs, there was this thing called LUG - Linx User groups. Where people, that used that once esoteric OS called Linux shared information, drank a beer and laughed at all the sheeple who used something different.

They also made plans to raise awareness and share ideas. Maybe something like that would be fun for Sailfish OS Users, too? Why not meet your local Sailfish in person? We could use this thread to organize the gatherings. Every anwser being a different city.

Some time ago we were sitting in one of the local fast food restaurants, my daughter and me, waiting for our dinner. There were others waiting too - the hamburgers of that place are worth waiting for - and one of the customers was talking on the phone. It took more than a polite glance to see that her phone looked familiar. It had an orange outside. She received her order and headed for the door. I couldn't believe my own nerve, but I made her stop and then showed her my own plain white phone. "Jolla.", she said and smiled. I just smiled like an idiot and nodded.

But it was an amazing experience for my daughter. She saw the young lady leave and then turmed to me.

"Do all Jolla owners say 'hi' to eachother?"

I hear owners of Land Rover cars greet eachother when driving. ...even those they don't know. One thing is sure, though. I never expected to see another Jolla phone in this tiny town. Now I have.

...and I said hello.

The only Jolla phones other than mine I have ever seen were at FOSDEM 2015 and community restaurant evening during that event. And a colleague's one because I made him buy it ^_^

Otherwise, I haven't seen one in daily "regular" life yet but I think I would do the same thing you did. That is a nice story :) Bikers also greet each other on the roads btw.

In munich I know of the one of my wife and a friends one who had an N9 before and was desperate until I pointed him to Jolla. I'll be at that Restaurant either way on that day regardless if anyone shows up. But it would be great fun!

@vattuvarg Wow! No kiss at the ending? ;-D

@lispy - A strange thing to wish for. ...especially when considering that most jolla phone owners are male...

My fiancee eagerly awaits her Jolla tablet, by the way. :D

axaq ( 2015-05-19 18:31:23 +0300 )edit

I think I'm available on that date. If there aren't too many participants, maybe it could be helpful to doodle a date?

RoKenn ( 2015-05-23 23:13:30 +0300 )edit

I don't know yet if I have time to come. There's a boardgame evening, but maybe it will be rescheduled.

hobbsch ( 2015-06-03 11:55:35 +0300 )edit

I think I can be there.

@tathhu I'm all for that, the more the merrier as they say :) I'm not sure how the previous meetings ended up being so developer oriented.. But here I was thinking more of like, group of people with common interest in Jolla gathering, without any specific agenda and let it become whatever people want to do

Acce ( 2015-05-20 19:55:21 +0300 )edit

anyone organizing these in capital area by chance?

on TMO there used to be a 'pin on the map' kind of thing. Something like that could be useful?

We had a nice first meeting on 3.8.2015 in Graz and are going to have more or less regular meetings in the future. For further information and planning of future activities in and around Graz, we opened a seperate thread: Sailfish User Group Graz

I want to remember all Jolla Users in near Graz for this meeting. Please comment here or write me an email (martinperz [at] gmx [dot] at) if you want to come. I got no feedback so far, so if I don't get any until monday noon I will cancel the meeting.

Anonymouse ( 2015-06-02 22:35:48 +0300 )edit

@Anonymouse No, not enough time. Is it worth a visit? Have fun! :)

Moth ( 2015-06-03 20:04:59 +0300 )edit

It was worth a visit ;-) Not only for the great talks, security forensics, design rules and other interesting stuff, I could also make new contacts for more insight. I can only suggest attending the next #Droidcon_DE in Berlin!

I would maybe come because I live near to zurich.

Do you speak german? Ar you a developer or a user?

heubergen ( 2015-07-18 23:05:02 +0300 )edit

Ich spreche auch Deutsch. Die meisten anderen dort auch.

But for the sake of the forum, I'll continue in english here. I'm just a user and a fanboy. I'm both member of the CCCZH (Chaos Computer Club Zürich) and board member of LUGS (Linux Users Group Switzerland. In both groups is a considerable number of Jolla users and at least one developer too. Both groups share the Hackerspace, hence I thought it to be the perfect location to hold a meeting there.

Sometimes, it looks like this

Venty ( 2015-07-18 23:21:51 +0300 )edit

I set up a poll for the date. Added it to the original comment too. Link to poll
