Hi,

Since last update the phone stop working the phone speaker and occasionally it runs into the issue of not able to answer call. I've seen other post about this last issue, but I haven't seen any other post about audio lost, does anyone else getting this? How can I find out if its a software or hardware issue?

Thanks!

Had exactly the same issue. Poking around with the CSD and reading many similar reports like https://together.jolla.com/question/39900/no-sound-through-speaker/?answer=51238#post-id-51238 the fix was very easy. Just reinstall the white TOH (also software) - and everything works again.

Thanks for the reply. The loud speakers themselves, the ones on the lower part work fine, the issue is on the phone speaker, the one to put next to the ear. This is the one that is failing. I think the link you send is only for the loud speakers.

yes, exactly - only the "phone speaker" is affected, not the bottom loud speaker - and I was able to solve the problem by just replacing the TOH (and install the software for this again)

@dcc Even though the mentioned thread is just about the loudspeakers it is also the same issue of bad contacts counting for the earpiece speaker. This issue was already solved by some people with the same procedure of cleaning and bending the contacts of the speaker as mentioned e.g. here. :) You may try to repair it by yourself if your mechanical skills are not too bad or send it to Jolla care if you still have warranty.

Did you already try CSD Tool? Type *#*#310#*#* on dial pad. This way you should be able to find out if it's a HW or SW problem. If there is a failure, please let us know which one.

What exactly do you mean with "not being able to answer call"? Could you post links to similar issues?

Thanks for the reply! I run the CSD tool and on the "receiver playback" test I cannot hear anything. I guess this is a hardware issue then?

Yes, the post I referred to was https://together.jolla.com/question/94218/touchscreen-not-working-on-incoming-call/

Yes, unfortunately sounds like an hardware issue. I assume that the CSD tool ignores possible software issues (otherwise the tool wouldn't make much sense, but I'm no expert in this...). Maybe someone else here has some further ideas - otherwise I would contact Jolla Care.

For your other problem - check out this link. There is an answer for how to reinstall the phone app: https://together.jolla.com/question/91141/incoming-call-cannot-answer/

To verify if its a hardware issue, play a track in the media player while tapping and pressing on the lower end of the phone, where the black bezel is. If you suddenly hear sound, it's a hardware issue with bad contacts to the speaker.

In that case you have two options:

  1. Jolla Care can repair it for you

  2. You take a small Torx driver (T4 or T5 IIRC), remove the battery, open the lower part of the phone, lose the warranty, lift the speaker, and bend the two pins touching the speaker lightly (just a little tiny bit) upwards to ensure better contact. The speaker is sitting loosely on the pins and tends to lose contact over time when pressure is applied to that part of the phone. This DIY repair is very easy to do.

Thanks as well for the reply, but you're refering for the loud speaker as well, right? If I play any media I can hear it through the loud speakers or the headphones. But any call, I cannot hear the tone or the other person.

this guide is indeed "only" for the loudspeaker and for hardware related faults
