Hi

So I finally received a Jolla smartphone for work. It seemed nice and the reviews, which I saw, said it's nice, too. After having it for two hours now, it's as good as dead. One thing led to another, I guess. First, I needed Microsoft Exchange for my work e-mails, which I didn't find. Also, there was no update for the phone, it just didn't want to, so I followed Jolla's own instructions with the commands and all. It froze, tried again, it crashed. Ok, now the program didn't work, restarted the phone and there you go, black screen of death. Seriously guys, this is not ok. I'll at least try to make it work again following other instructions or something. All I wanted was a working smartphone that doesn't die in my hands after 2 hours and looks cool. Just looking cool won't do it.

https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201836347-How-do-I-download-and-install-a-System-Update- instructions, tried to update from 1.0.2.5 to 1.1.2.16

How likely am I to recommend Jolla now? If you're thinking positive, then think again.

I'm sending this phone back whereever it came from.

I don't think you can judge a whole product because of some unfortunate mistake. Same can happen to any device/system out there. It looks like your installation got interrupted - failing system-boot is the usual consequence. Most of the time it's the user's mistake with wrong installation procedures or not following upgrade guides. Of course I can understand your frustration and I hope you can fix your device as soon as possible.

Official way would be to contact Jolla Care and explain the situation. Otherwise, check out this (posted by Jolla due to conflicts with user-installed unofficial repositories - unfortunately I can't find the original link):

If a factory reset cannot be performed or if the device has booting issues:

- Unplug USB cable and turn off device
- Press volume down and power on the device
- Plug in USB cable and using USB networking telnet to 192.168.2.15 or 10.42.66.66 and follow the instructions

Note: it is still possible to break the Recovery mode in developer mode.

Also have a look at this link: https://together.jolla.com/question/22079/howto-all-computer-users-recover-or-reset-a-device-that-is-stuck-in-boot-loop/

Microsoft Exchange and Upgrades:

Create a Jolla account (can be done on phone) and download Microsoft Exchange from the official Jolla Store (available in Settings/Accounts afterwards). Updates appear automatically via notifications if you are on WLAN connection (can be changed in settings). Alternatively you can manually search for updates via Settings. You DON'T need to use any commands in Sailfish OS and should stay away from them (incl. developer mode - there is even a warning when you activate it), unless you know what you are doing or intent to use command line for your own projects. Upgrades via command line can be very harmful if done wrong - on any device (including desktop systems).

I'm very sorry for your rough start with the phone. In case you need any help or don't understand something, please ask :-)

Got it to work again after doing reset to factory condition. I'll give it another chance, I guess.
