Hello everyone,

recently I wanted to send a video I took via Mail. Unfotunately the 2 min clip was about 200 Mb, so I canceled my attempt.

Any possibility to resize/compress it to a suitable size (max. 10 mb) before sending it?

Cheers Mika

This function is really needed especially if you send pictures by mobile connection and have a limited transfer volume.

little bit like this request ... feature-request-resize-images-when-adding-to-mail Are encoders / recoders available on jolla? Is the jolla fast enough?

Some file types will not compress well. For example, most multimedia files will not, as they already exist in a highly compressed state. These file types usually employ efficient techniques to compress the data they contain. Examples include, but are not limited to, graphic (picture) files (GIF, JPG, PNG, etc), music files (MP3, WMA, etc), and movie files (AVI, MPG, etc). Files that are compressed, as these examples are, usually cannot be compressed more to any significant extent. (Therefore, such files don't get much, if any, smaller when they are added to say something like a zip file).

Had you continued to send your video over email, you may well find it gets rejected, as the file size may possibly exceed the email servers limit.

For the moment, there is no gui for compressing/extracting files. But you can use the terminal to do that.

Compressing such media files with a lossless general purpose encoder, like bzip, has almost zero effect. What is asked is to rescale and/or recompress the media for smaller file size so they are more appropriately sized for quick communication. KDE's KMail provides such feature, at least for images. I guess (hope) that Jolla also already does this for MMS.

@Fuzzillogic Right, it depends on the encoder used. Also, i didn't know that KMail had this feature, will look how that works, thanks for the info :-)
