Hello! My Jolla came back from repair service and I was shocked to find that it doesn't find the backup file. If I insert the SD card (ext4) to my Ubuntu laptop via card reader, I can find the backup.tar but if I plug my phone in I don't find it. The sd card is not the same one I used to get the backup out of my phone, so after I formated it with my computer I simply copied the backup file to the card. I am using Aaslakkajärvi.

Check if it is mounted properly, if you are doing some fancy mounting with your uSD like the android shared uSD you need to stop those mounts or TheVault will not be started with the uSD as the right SDpath! As you are using another card, is it maybe 64GB extfat? You need to format it to ext2/3/4 or btrfs to be able to use a >32gb card without installing additional FS support to your Jolla.

@chemist I haven't yet mastered the terminal, so how do I check if it's mounted properly? It's not fancy at all, just a 8GB card with ext4.

Yep, I tried copying another backup to SD, and I got an error. Seems like Jolla has trouble reading/writing to the SD card. E: I used my pro linux terminal skills to go to the /media/sdcard folder. When i typed "dir" it shows two strings of letters and numbers. What's going on here? E2: Apparently one of them is an empty folder and I can't enter the other one. It says "Permission denied" (Lupa evätty in finnish)

have a look at this faq

check the folder permissions (have a look at the ext4 section)

I am sorry, my Linux -fellas, I failed you. All of this SSH stuff isn't too familiar to me and learning it takes too long for today. So- I formatted the SD card to fat32 with GParted and now it works. I am going to format it to ext4 later, but right now I don't have the time and I need a working phone. Thank you for your help.
