I think it is useful to add option with lock-code. trusted person/number, (like N9) contact where you can send lock-code and call for code.

I know three functions for this

  1. of course if you not remember your lock-code

  2. if you lost your phone, someone who find it can call your trusted person and maybe you get your device back.

  3. In case of emergency, people who come to help you can call to trusted person, who can maybe tell something important of you eg: healthy and medicine. Everyone is hearing about ICE number. this can work like that, but maybe it's easier if one can call right when they get the phone in their hands.

Many times a rescue worker have to try call someone to get information about client/customer, new smartphones stop this option because of eg: lock-code or similar. but if it works like N9 and gives option to send message and call trusted person its may save lives in the best scenario.

I work part of my time in rescue jobs and only last year two or three times i needed customers phone to get some important information like what happens, when did it happen, who knows this person.

Mostly one has a ICE contact on the phone (at least that's what you should do) except of course, these days, we lock our phones.

I would agree to have an open option to call the ICE number without unlocking. if someone finds my phone and wants to give it back to me (police won't), let them...

I think if phone only says you can call "ICE number" and shows like ICE1 or somethink like that, no one phone numbers or any private data cannot see or use.

actually, it'd be enough to just have in the interface an ICE textfield somewhere in settings, and the lock screen to show: ICE: foo....

it doesn't need to be more complicated than that...

Since I see the above as being too implementation focused (including my own) I wrote some user stories:

  • As a Rescue Worker I want to call the phone owner's emergency contact(s).

    • As a Phone Owner I want to hide private info about my emergency contact(s).

    • As a Lost and found attendant I want to contact a phone owner.

and here is a patch https://openrepos.net/content/virgi/patch-ice-case-emergency

right now it's just a simple list

probably will add "calling/sending sms to emergency contact" feature

Nice. I'd rather leave it like this. Whoever needs to make use of this information will have a phone available, so I don't think there's any point in making the patch more complex by having our own phone do the call. Just displaying name & tel. number is good enough.

This does not work for me on Sailfish OS 3.2. The App has not been updated since 2016.
