Today my camera protecting TOH arrived from shapeways and ofc. I wanted to put in on my phone ASAP. So I did.

But the TOH didn't want to stick. The connection was weak, with the weakest spot at the left, down corner (when the phone screen faces to the ground). So weak that the phone felt off the TOH a few times!

So I was sad... but not that sad; as we're a community of hackers I thought let's hack that shit. ;) So the first thing I did was comparing it to the original TOH.

It took some time till I realized the slight difference: While the TOHs are the same size on the outside the inside is different: The material of the printed TOH is a bit (almost not notable) thinner than the original, so the inner side is too big.

With that knowledge I took tape (medical tape called Leukosilk) and stared by making three parallel stripes at the inner side (from the left to the right). I don't have pictures of that but I hope you'll understand by reading more future and seeing the pictures of the result. So after trying and trying I noticed that every time the sides seem to be good the backplate got to thick cause of the tape. So I used a surgical blade to remove the tape from the backplate, just leaving it at the sides. That's how it looks:

One to two layers of tape are enough and the TOH sticks at the phone (still not as tight as the original TOH but I don't have to fear that my phone drops out anymore).

Then contact Flypig, nothing to do with Jolla.

@Markkyboy maybe there is a lots of other people in this case, i think it is normal to put this thread here to gather all those people which could be in touch. The natural way is contact flypig, but put away this kind of thread is not right i find. It has its place. has anyway something to do with jolla, because it is designed for it.

You make some valid points @cemoi71. I am not saying remove the thread, but it's clear there are some flaws with the design or the way it is produced. Quite honestly, if I bought one and it didn't fit, I'd be sending it back or asking for a refund - while quoting lines like "not of merchantable quality"; "not fit for purpose" and then post my findings and problems on Talk Maemo, but that's how I would do it. Yes, it is designed to fit the Jolla, again no disputing that fact, but the product is not 'from' Jolla, 'unlike' the original TOH's, which as far as I know, all fit perfectly. I think the production methods differ greatly. Original TOH's are moulded polycarbonate, while the flypig TOH's are sintered by laser, 2 totally different methods of production.

Jolla only supply the .STL files for the 3d printing process and it is already noted that the files are not without faults and are not completely accurate, there are other considerations of course, but I'm not going into that now.

So, the original .STL files for printing had to be altered by someone at Flypig?, not Jolla, furthermore, I've attempted several prints using a 3D filament printer (again, a totally different process, not used by Jolla or Flypig), but not one of the cases clipped on properly when printed. So, again, not really a Jolla problem, despite being 'designed' for it, which it is and it isn't. Someone not at Jolla, would have had to prepare the files for the laser printing/sintering process, just as someone AT Jolla did create/prepare the .STL for the community to be able to 'mock up' ideas/projects using only 3D filament printers.

All right @Markkyboy i understood that it has not its place here in together (could be wrong interpreted: bad-boy or good-boy?). And you're right all normal people who has bought a part to a provider should contact him, and try to become an normal healthy as described and expected one. sounds like was some misunderstanding. then have good continuation.

and you're right i found jolla toh the best until now on material and finition quality.

lol, you made me laugh, there is no 'goodboy or badboy' here @cemoi71. We are all just expressing opinions and sometimes we differ because we digest the information in different ways :)

This is _together_.jolla.com, right? So I thought this would be the best place to post this. Yes, it's not a product from Jolla, none the less Jolla users find _together_ here, so in my eyes this is the common dominator. Please note that I'm new to the community, so maybe you're right and TMO would fit better (on the other side when I started with Jolla/Sailfish I landed here. TMO is something I'm hearing about the last few days but the weeks before... ;)

I also contacted flypig by mail but I already (slightly) damaged the TOH (while fixing), so I don't think a refund is possible (and not even needed, after all it fits now). Also then the question would be: Is it flypigs fault (bad design) or did shapeways do something wrong (bad print) ?

BTW: This thread did go through moderator approval cause of new tags - Tags where removed but the thread is here. So the Jolla team itself seems to think it fits. :)
