Japanese Support (SailfishOS 2.x?)

Hi there,

Right now I have to install the japanese keyboard and language support from the Harbour.

Also in the company I'm working for, our japanese partners are interested in this phone (and they don't want to use the unofficial support from harbour).

So there needs to be Japanese Support in the future (especially in SailfishOS 2.x)!

As a tablet owner, in Japan (I know... I know) - I'd like to second this and not only for translations. The keyboard available through openrepos isn't packaged for i86 so it can't be used on the tablet at all.

It'd be nice to be able to type in Japanese (and more languages really)

Don't know about SFOS 2.0 but I'm guessing the amount of translations will be greater, as they have an open ticket/issue/task in the developmentroadmap:

  • Community instance of translation server Pootle

IIRC an official translation portal has been promised for longer than a year already with the only availability being soon (tm). I guess more pressure could be applied on Jolla to show how important this is ?

Got an reply on Facebook.

There will be no Japanese support as this phone is not sold in Japan.

So i'd kindly request to convert your answer into an comment so its visible that there is no real answer/solution yet to this problem

IIRC Carol commented on Jolla Blog that more translatuins will be made available through community efforts. So even if there might not be official translations available, I think my answer still stans as community translations controlled by Jolla might be available.

Jolla controlled community support doesnt help anything if, after an upgrade to SailfishOS2, the support is gone.

The support is always lacking behind official versions and is still not complete.

Also the support only is about the language of the phone, there is nothing for the keyboard (except an very expeirmental build from one single person).

If i have to be afraid to everything is gone and broken with the next update, i dont call that "supported".

That's why there's the Early Adopters program, so that devs, etc. can fix problems encountered in a new release.

But unfortunately this is and will be the case as long as Jolla is not sold in these countries, there won't be official support of any kind. Same goes with other products. Why put effort in (this case) translations if your device isn't even sold in that country and there is no official channel to get a hold of the product?

This is one point why we "do it together" different things. If some language support isn't available we can do it possible together. I hope people will accept this new way of doing and creating things.

I hope there will be translation sites when SailfishOS 2 is available so we can all users collect translations witch are available to use in new software updates.
