supporting this approach, as so far only iPhone and selected Android devices support EAP-SIM e.g. in Hotspots of Swisscom

Sorry, this was meant to be a comment, not an answer: EAP-SIM: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4186 EAP-AKA: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4187

Symbian also support EAP-SIM (at least S60r5, tested successfully on 5800 XpressMusic).

For now, support should be added to mer before it goes through Jolla devices:

  1. add pcsc-lite package (needed to access SIM card)
  2. compile wpa_supplicant package with EAP-SIM support (needs pcsc-lite according to doc)
  3. [update connman to handle EAP connections]

All mobile operators in South Korea use EAP-SIM for their authenticated Wi-Fi connection.

SailfihOS doesn't support EAP-SIM yet, but vote, and the feature should be added.

That's clearly not an answer but just a comment.

Well the questions were: "Does Jolla support EAP-SIM?" answer is NO. "Will Jolla support EAP-SIM?" Answer is YES, if you vote for it on this thread (I received the answer through JollaHQ Twitter account when I asked)

So, both questions were answered.

I'm waiting as eagerly as you for this feature, since all the IOS and Adroïd fanboys around me keep bugging me about the lack of that feature in SailfishOS.

If Jolla somehow stated they will support this in the future. Should this issue be tagged with roadmap?

avdwoude ( 2014-04-25 11:17:02 +0300 )

Sorry but it's really awkward to call this a feature. It's just missing!

I'll add some reference links for this here: https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4187.txthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Authentication_Protocol#EAP-AKAhttp://cryptome.org/3gpp/33402-860.pdf There are only two other important EAPs: EAP-TLS, and EAP-TTLS.

EAP SIM is much needed, that was one of the n900 weakness that made me want a new phone

I am waiting for this feature too. Have been waiting for it for a long time…

vbregier ( 2015-08-17 10:52:20 +0300 )

Too many years without it. This is really an OS feature that should be processed with a high priority.

ron282 ( 2016-01-23 11:07:23 +0300 )

Yes, it's a way to open entry market smartphones to the Jolla/sailfish OS. So people without a data connection could use internet and then they have an interest for choosing a smartphone with Sailfish OS....

olcell ( 2016-01-23 15:28:20 +0300 )

Any news about this feature?

A five year old feature request. It is not yet supportes by Sailfisch 3.0.1.14. I use EAP-SIM a lot. Please include it in Sailfish.

Yes, please add this requested feature (it was a standard feature on E-71, E-72, N9 from Nokia or Windowsphone, on android phone....)! Data is not always cheap and EAP-SIM can help to put sailfish on the family phones....
