Black screen when trying to update

I'm trying to update to 1.1.7. from 1.1.4.28 but I only get a black screen. The update to 1.1.6.28 went fine but I've had the exact same problem for nearly all the previous updates so I think I fiddle too much with my phone but I don't know what goes wrong.
When this happens, I can power down by pressing the button for a while and it reboot fine so I think the update is blocked by something.
I always disable patchmanager and openrepos even if it isn't required. Is there some kind of log I can refer to to find out what prevents the update to perform correctly?
