Google Play installation should be an 'jolla' app [answered]

if sailfish os wants to become a bigger player, it has to make the transition for current android users easier. 99.9% of them are using goggle play store and already have bought there tons of app's. so an access to google services / store is crutial for them. so i believe there should be an official jolla app that does all the steps that are currently needed to install google play store automatically.

personally i am trying to use google services as little as possible but i did try to convince a collegue to buy a jolla and failed. he wanted to be able to use skobbler gps navigation. this works basically on jolla, but you cant buy another map without google play installed when he saw the install procedure for google play, he just said: nope ;-(

What's the point then? If you want to get all the Google services and Play Store, it makes me sense to buy an Android phone. The Play store monopoly needs to be broken, so that app publishers learn to use more stores. Then they can also start publishing existing apps in the Jolla Store.

did you read my stuff to the end ? i do not need google services i am using only threema and here as android app but if you want to get out of the niche you need to make the majority happy.

everybody who saw jolla was impressed, but first question: can i run android apps second: can i access google store

regarding jolla shop: after 2 years not exactly full and why should they currently release apps in jolla shop? there is no buy option and in - app will not work too.

Oh, the install procedure for Google Play Spy Services on the Jolla is peanuts compared to the procedure required to install it on a non-Google Android device.

Anyway, there are better alternatives to the Play Store that can also be used on Google-devices. Google Play Services is Google's attempt to turn Android into a proprietary closed platform, while the OS itself is somewhat open-source.

I have to confirm pycage's view, Android/Linux is a bastardized GNU/Linux and the Play-Stuff try to replace the open parts finally. And some app, sadly, rely already on it.

Jolla will never get the Google Play license from Google since it doesn't have installed Google Apps as a system application and other criteria. That's the reason why Jolla can't make an official package due legal reasons.

And like WINE it would lower all efforts for native apps. Which is bad in the long term.
