Would be funny to see a native Linux bootscreen without the splashscreen. Could be a option under Settings -> System -> Developermode

Edit: Turn off splashscreens can improve the feedback on bootloops, update fail, shoutdown fails etc. (Thanks @MartinK)

Edit: Update to 2.0.2.x - Nothing new on this side. Any plans? Do anyone work on a patch or something?

Could be also handy for stuff like debugging boot loops, upgrade issues, etc. :)

Good idea and developermode would be the perfect place for that setting.

If you work on this: please add a virtual Keyboard! Then we could do disk-encryption with cryptsetup like on every other linux computer.

Recompile the kernel with the framebuffer console, install and you will have the linux penguins and the kernel messages etc scrolling over the screen.

It's hard to recompile without the source... http://releases.sailfishos.org/sources/ There's no 1.1.7 source available atm.

Yes this is really hard, so i have to recompile every build manually? Sorry it´s easier for all to implement that kind of option. I´m on early adopter, so there is no chance to recompile every build

sounds like the framebuffer console is deliberately left out to save space

It's left out as it would otherwise print kernel messages etc on the screen, while most people just expect a splash screen until the UI comes up. And also to avoid having to deal with special bootsplash programs and the like. But it is relatively easy to add by recompiling the kernel. The rest of the implementation Could be done by the community? As honestly I think there are other things that are more important on the todo list first.

might be an idea to investigate Plymouth to go along with all the other freedesktopy stuff that's already in sailfishos
