Whatsapp/whatsup complaining to whatsapp via email
Just wondering if this has been done, at all? By whom? Progress? Call me naive, but I like to moan, I'm pretty good at it, I like to think. I just got my phone back after returning it to Jolla HQ for repair, no qualms with their customer service, excellent, but re-installing app's I suddenly find no whatsup any more and that really pssed me off, I loved this 'native' app and am not loving the no choice android crp alternative.
So what are whatsapp pulling a face about? I am a user, not a dev, I don't understand, someone please explain. I want to write a letter of complaint as they seem to be keen enough to send solicitors letters out to the developer, so why not a whole bunch of us complain to them about their lack of support for SailfishOS? I never think these things are a waste of time, so I'll write one anyway, but I'd like some background on the reason this has happened, as it did with mittakulu, I thought whatsup had navigated the hurdles it needed to?
I'm holding back a few hours before writing to see opinions but I would update with a reply from them if one is forthcoming.
Sorry, but this is what happens when you use a closed service. You are not entitled to have a working client for the operating system of your choice, so there's no reason to complain. In fact, from a more general point of view, it's an advantage if people can't use WhatsApp reasonably on Sailfish: Each additional user strengthens the network; each user less makes it weaker.

Janssoni ( 2015-09-04 17:55:20 +0200 )editInstead of a complain (as there's, unfortunately, no use for one), there should be many sending request (as there might be wish for a native, officially supported Sailfish OS client). Enough of questions would get any company at least to think about it, and it should be left to them to decide if they want to suuport a 3rd party client or offer their own. In the meanwhile, Jolla users should say like you - Clear and simple NO for the Android alterative
simo ( 2015-09-04 20:16:57 +0200 )editLike others said... WhatsApp is a company which can do whatever they want - it's their right and they don't owe us anything. We could write them a 100 mails, they wouldn't care - even if the whole Jolla user base would write, it wouldn't matter. They even first refused to make a client for BB10 and I'm sure Microsoft had to let drop some $$$ to them to make it available for Windows Phone.
The problem with WhatsApp is, that it's closed source and thus Whatsapp dictates when, where and on what phone you are using their service. I think that's wrong and not responsable of WhatsApp seeing, that it kinda became a mandatory tool for smartphones these days (that's not coming from me, but ask the typical iOS, Android user...). Even people who live in the same city as I do use that stupid Whatsapp for simple messages instead of SMS... I mean seriously? I can understand if it's about avoiding roaming costs, but within the same country?? Naturally I only answer in form of an SMS...
I try to bring people away from Whatsapp but know it's annoying (I gave up to try to make people use open protocols, but it seems to work better for Telegram - which at least for NOW, shares an API).
Anyways, you have good intentions and I appreciate your positive thinking...but don't waste your time on those ignorant WhatsApp people.
And like mentioned before, check the "Whatsup for Jolla" thread at talk.maemo.org to get help and more infos about "WhatsUp".
