Why do graphic elements like images, texts or lines are rendered different depending on their screen position? This looks like some subpixel rounding artifact and degrades the overall look and feel of the OS, especially when scrolling.

Some noticeable places (though its visible everywhere)

  • Jolla Store overview
  • Home screen when slowly scrolling (quite noticeable with a minimized terminal showing some text)
  • Underlines in links from twitter feed

Can you tell me if you are seeing this on

Yes, in

  • The icons in Jolla Store sometimes have jagged edges (slowly scroll the overview page and notice the light blu rectangles inside the 15-puzzle app icon)
  • On home screen it might have something to do with compositing
  • The underlines from twitter feed links alternate between 1 and 2 pixel width while scrolling. As soon as flicking is stopped its always back to 1 px.

I have noticed this as well on my first day of usage.

The icons in the launcher show this effect: it is easier to notice on the top row of rounded icons, which looks doubled when the page is static, and gets 'normal' when it is scrolling. maybe it is an artifact of smoothed rendering?

The artifacts look like the result of subpixel positioning of the graphics.
