We know about the bug of rocker is active when screen is locked and off... but what do we actually want from it? People already requested Mute/Bing/Ringtone settings instead of Mute/Ringtone setting for the Ringtone-Volume-Slider. So lets see. Basic behaviour needs to be forced but there is the actual missing value - you cannot change Ringtone-Volume by default!

  1. First of all ever and only! -> The Rocker should be active to change Music-Volume when sound is played. Additionally it would be nice to change songs too, at least with the jolla mediaplayer.
  2. some $apps in between, changing screen-brightness in gallery or Home-PgUp and End-PgDn for lists... we have the camera shutter...
  3. Ringtone-Volume should be changed when outside of apps and app isn't hogging it (mediaplayer is paused...)

EDIT apart of music controls this is about the volume rocker behaviour when the screen is actually ON, that is why the first sentence reads about the bug that the rocker is active while screen is off. Having music-controls when the device is locked in your pocket is actually a feature that is missing... (I don't know what people do in their pockets but I do not call people and I do not change songs or volumes by accident if not actually reaching for the buttons and hit them while searching for them in my pocket)

The N9 behaviour was great. You've been able to select between silent, single tone and a few volume levels for the ring tone without having to unlock the device just using the volume keys. Jolla requires to unlock the phone and select a different ambience when entering the office for example.

Please! If the volume rocker button is active in any way while the phone is locked: Make this an option only! I am pretty sure, that the rocker is pressed in my pocket frequently -- and I want to be sure that it does not change any setting in this case!

Skipping to the next song would be great, but then again I also like the volume control. Some phones also support skipping songs by pressing the headset button twice and that could be possible if support for headset button would be added.

@jgr you are repeating a bug report I therefor mentioned in the first sentence - stop hijacking!

@hana behaviour like longpress for changing song and short for volume is the usual way - headset controls is another topic as not even a button event gets recognized at the moment

@chemist: It seems you misunderstood me. You ask for a feature (when the phone is locked, the volume rocker shall be assigned certain functions) and I comment, that I want to be able to activate/deactivate such behavior i.e. in the settings. For example, I do not want, that the rocker can change the ringtone volume while the Jolla is locked, not even while the phone is ringing. That at the same time there currently is a bug about the rocker, is no reason to turn a bug into feature -- that cannot be deactivated. So still, please make it (what you request) an option only (i.e. you get, what you want, but I am not the looser).

@jgr I give up... you are repeating your concerns which are a bug... go to @szobi s link if you don't want the music controls either... I don't want the rocker to do anything but maybe music controls when the device is locked in my pocket

@jgr yes it should be in the music player settings . It can also be a hack which is directly useful for power users instead of changing the default behaviour.

As mentioned in the, now closed, duplicate thread, I would like to be able to skip to next/prev song by long-pressing the volume rocker. Would be really handy while the phone is in your pocket, locked.

In my ideal world this would also work in Android apps (say, Spotify). Not sure if that's even possible but one can always dream. :)

I am also looking for this feature .. just for comparison sake my feature phone on 2006 has this feature and I am desperate to see this feature. I hope there is a QML hack with which I could just change the function of the volume button . Its a very useful feature skipping songs on the move instead of unlocking screen and swiping..

Just one more thing: Single powerbutton press let be the play/pause button. And then, it's perfect. (Single powerbutton press needs not to be duplicate of doubletap. And for any ugly case, powerbutton doubletap unlocks the device too.)

Any update on this , or atleast an idea of what to change and where ?

While screen is on:

  1. First of all ever and only! -> The Rocker should be active to change Music-Volume when sound is played. Additionally it would be nice to change songs too, at least with the jolla mediaplayer. [|< Vol+/- >|]
  2. some $apps in between, changing screen-brightness in gallery (return to previous setting when app is minimized) or Home-PgUp and End-PgDn for lists... we have the camera shutter already...
  3. Ringtone-Volume should be changed when outside of apps and app isn't hogging it (mediaplayer is paused...), preferably between [silent|beep|ringtone-volume].

While screen is off: no more than mediaplayer-controls [|< Vol+/- >|]

See the point, sounds OK, beside I would see: While screen is off: preferably between [silent|beep|ringtone-volume].

Switching between songs could be done by button on your headphones, i.e. like on iPod 2 short press -> forward, 3 short press -> backward

Or all this should be as a choice in Preferences!

screen on is one keypress away and you prevent accidential behaviour when you just do nothing with it if the screen is turned off...
