Apple headphone volume buttons

asked 2015-11-17 16:55:04 +0300

I was lucky enough to get a pair of iFruit headphones (the ones that are shipped with iPaid phones) from a friend. The mic works and sound quality is fine, even the pause button does it's thing, but the volume buttons have no effect whatsoever.

TL;DR is there any way to make the volume buttons function with my Jolla phone?

It is a matter of wiring. Apple follows the Cellular Telephone Industries Association Standard whereas Android phones (hardwarewise, Jolla is an Android phone) follow the Open Mobile Terminal Platform Standard.

Between the two standards, the wire for the microphone and the wire for ground are swapped.

You could either manipulate the cable of your headphone or you could buy an adapter.

Ahh, standards. It's good to have so many to choose from :)

This is very confusing, because the pause works and the volume doesn't (the opposite compared to the linked thread). Well, if no-one has succeeded to do some software hacking, it seems like I need to fetch my soldering equipment and some tape.
