Whatsup vs. Wazapp vs. Mitakuuluu - Who has an overview?

Hi,

right now, I am going with the Android App of WhatsApp. As this has some minor issues like message delivering, I am searching for a native App. I had WhatsUp until some legal topics came up and I thought the project would be discontinued.

As it seems, there are still three projects for WhatsApp in progress? Has anyone a recommendation? Which one should I install? Would be great, if it's one which is able to update itself (by a Store).

Thanks!

I can tell you that my Whatsup stopped working a few days ago. It won't let me connect, neither registrate again, not even reinstalling the app seemed to work.

Whatsup is working great for me(v02-4). It is a shame that is an underground project now.

I got banned using whatsup after trying to add a contact to a group conversation, so be careful with that

I am still using my Whatsup for the record, and it is so good it is my only option, the Android whatsapp is just too limited for my liking, too heavy in some issues, and like the beauty of gesture based. I have not used Mitakuuluu only its Meego counterpart in Persecute, still lacks some features to be honest, but still way ahead of the android app in UI and usability. In summary the Android whatsapp is good enough for Android devices, using it on Sailfish is just taking all the fun and comfort native clients can provide. I have been using Whatsup right from inception on my N9 and still use it on my Jolla, and so far it is the best chat client you can get, period

Whatsup is working fine but do not add a contact to a group otherwise you'll be banned! If you use it, please make a donation! This will motivate the development team.

No use Signal instead ;) Google free version available here https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1489179

But there is no native Sailfish client for Signal - only an Android one.

The best of them is Mitakuulu, as it is the only one (to my knowledge - someone correct me if I'm wrong) that allows you full control over which contacts are added to its own address book (and are hence visible for WhatsApp) - great improvement in privacy and really a killer feature as far as I am concerned.

Unfortunately, WhatsApp messed with the protocol a while ago, so Mitakuulu is no longer working (that is something that can happen to WhatsUp at any time, too - the joys of using a proprietary protocol), and so far, the author has not found time/motivation/resources to fix this problem. So, no more WhatsApp for me ATM.

Well, when i developing new version of mitakuuluu, whatsup was released and everybody started using it. I did not received any single donaion on mitakuuluu development forba while, so i stopped development at all :) Currently I'm not using whatsapp myself and have no idea if development can be started again in future.

Thanks for responding to this thread! I'm just trying to remember when I did donate for Mitakuulu - must've been a short while before it broke, IIRC, as I really did appreciate your effort there. For now , I use it as an argument to push Telegram amongst people I know... >;-)

mitakkuulu is not working anymore...you can install whatsup that work like a charm...but is not on anystore and you have to download it from talk maemo...and don't forget to download gstreamer from warehouse for voice recording...maybe not the easy solution but surely the best one...

I am not sure, but I think that going back from the whatsapp android client to whatsup native client might not work because of missing encription functionality in whatsup. Maybe somone who knows for sure can comment?

It does work with the newest version. The developer found a way to switch the account back to unencrypted messaging. Whatsup here working like a charm for 4 accounts, 3 of them were using the native Whatsapp before.
